RickyMartin Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Hi! I'm going to chicago on 5/15/13- 5/21or22/13 for the first time and wanted to get some help from anyone on here on how to get a good deal on a hotel 3* and up. Basically im going to be doing the touristy thingy so i guess anywhere close where all of this is taking place. I'm planing to take the public transportion system. Last time on here thereuare helped me in nyc by staying at different hotels for the same trip which turned out to be a life saver and money saver. hehePlease help me again guys! Thanks!
AaronJB Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? Unfortunately, this is a very busy period due to a massive convention on 5/18-21, and rates are on the high side.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RickyMartin Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 Hi and thanks for responding back to me. Since prices will be high during this time, I guess I can work around to getting a hotel for the following week, 5/26/13-5/31/13 since I have a convention 5/23 - 5/25 in nashville(trying to extend the work convention hehe) Can you help me? I Would like to stay in the $100 or lower(hehe) a night. Maybe you can help me with a bidding strategy on priceline? And/or hotwire? Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 I don't think i'm following (or maybe i am)... are you abandoning the idea to extend your work trip in Chicago and are now looking to do a pre-work trip in Nashville? Please confirm and we'll then have a look at rates for your dates and location. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 5/26-31 looks moderately better on HOTWIRE - there's a 4* for $123 and 3* for $129. Regular rates actually look surprisingly decent, but HOTWIRE rates do not appear aggressively discounted, possibly due to the season (nicer weather, baseball games and other goings on.)Rates appear fairly similar across star levels for these date/s. A 4* bid for $85 may not be accepted, but is not outside the realm of possibility. If not accepted, you could then move up by $5's.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RickyMartin Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Sorry I didn’t make myself clear thereuare. I think AaronJB has it right. What I meant to say is that I'm now looking to get the dates of 5/26/13-5/31/13. I tried bidding last night on priceline using another members bidding example(summermonger) and was rejected. The following is what I tried.Select 4* NMA-River North...Bid $75, rejected added free-bid zone 11...Bid $80, rejected added free-bid zone 6...Bid $85, rejected added free-bid zone 5...Bid $90, rejected added free-bid zone 4...Bid $93, rejected added free-bid zone 3...Bid $95 - rejected again.I have a couple of questions to ask you if you don’t mind.1) Do you think if I wait and bid again I could get it for under $100?2) Also When bidding last night I didn’t include the zone "Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area" #7 because I’m not sure if this is a good downtown area. Should I include it and if so, what would be the best priceline strategy using the example above.3) Also, I notice that If I search on hotwire/priceline express for a day less, meaning 5/26 -5/30, the prices seem to be much lower. For example there is a priceline express 4* hotel for $88 with the Guaranteed Amenities: Restaurant Airport Shuttle Business Center Fitness CenterCan you give me a guess as to what hotel this could be? I'm thinking that maybe I can tell the front lobby people to hold my bags until i switch to a different hotel. Thanks thereuare and AaronJB for helping me out!
AaronJB Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 What zone is the 4* PRICELINE express listing in? No hotels (as far as I'm aware of) downtown offer a shuttle, given how far the airports are from downtown. The Loop area is fine, although some parts of it do get noticeably quieter later at night - if you are going to be out at night, there is more going on North of the river.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
RickyMartin Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Hi again, the 4* priceline express hotel is in zone "Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park". I went to the hotel "Hyatt Regency Chicago" website and it offers a shuttle, but they mention on their site that it is not free. Not sure this is the one, but something gives me the feeling it is.Thanks!
AaronJB Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 There is no way to know if you will be able to get it at under $100 closer to your stay. Unfortunately, HOTWIRE prices when searching for all five nights are looking worse than they did yesterday. It's really the last night, which is considerably more expensive. If you don't mind switching hotels, you can try again starting at $75 for a 4* in the River North-NMA area and move higher by $5's using re-bidding for the first four nights. Are you going to be out later at night? If so, I'd recommend the River North-NMA area - if not, you could also consider the Loop, where hotels appear similarly priced for these date/s.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
