utvidguy Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 I'm trying to find a room in NYC from 3/28-3/31 for my son who will be visiting a friend in college there. He wants to be near 55th and 2nd Ave, which is in MTE, but anywhere I can find that puts him a 10 minute subway ride away is fine. I want to keep maximum bid below $110. My zones in order of preference are MTE, MTW, CPS, ESB. I tried 4* in MTE at $100, rejected. Added CPS, rejected. Tried $101 with same result. Obviously I haven't gone up to my limit, but just need some advice. Want a nice a place as possible. I'm willing to go down to 3* if needed to reach budget.Any help is appreciated.Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Unfortunately i think current rates are going to be beyond your budget, but if you want to give it a try...When bidding 3* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTE and MTW...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS and ESB...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS and MTW...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE and ESB...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB and MTW...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS and MTE...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE and MTW and CPS...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE and MTW and ESB...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, MTW, CPS, ESB...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110You could start at the 4* level and to through all the bids above, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE, try again at the 3.5* level, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE, then try at the 3* level (same bids and strategy for each star level).Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. utvidguy Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Didn't have any luck. I was going to try 2.5*. Looks like it only has one re-bid zone as well. Coney - is that correct?
thereuare Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Yes, one re-bid zones at the 2.5* level, but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last looked.Should your 2.5* bidding fail do you have a back-up plan? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. utvidguy Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Probably just try raising my bids or looking in further away zones.

thereuare Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Quality at lower rated hotel in NYC can be suspect... you may get a diamond in the rough that you would gladly pay even more for OR you could get something that you loathe returning to at the end of the day.Not sure how flexible your budget is, but HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in the ESB zone for $153/nite that is 4.5/5.0 rated on Tripadvisor (excellent) and 100% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests... i would sooner take this than an 'unknown' lower rated hotel which may not be so nice. Amenities for this property are Smoke Free, Free Internet, Business, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Roll-in Shower and my guess is that this may be the Hilton Garden Inn on 35th St.Let us know whatever you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. utvidguy Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 Decided not to venture out to further zones, and go lower than 3*. Luckily, I found a nice place on airbnb.Hopefully will have 'betterbidding' luck next time. Thanks for the advice and tips.
