Hello Everyone,

I'm attempting to use priceline NYOP for my trip to NYC next month. I've been reading the forum for the past few days, and I think I'm getting how it works.

It's 4 people/1 room, and we want to stay in MTE(top choice)/MTW/Soho/DT/CPS - but in general as long as its a good hotel in a fairly central part we aren't picky. Are willing to spend up to $200, but would prefer trying to get something for cheaper, so we have more spending money.

Does anyone know if we will be able to get something cheaper, or is this usually a busy weekend?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Betterbidding.

The issue with PRICELINE, four people and NYC is that the service only guarantees one bed and that is particularly true in NYC. Rooms are often small in NYC and two beds often go for a premium. One can request two beds with the hotel, but they can (and there have been instances where they have in NYC) say no.

Would the possibility of one bed be an acceptable risk?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thank you for your response. I think I am willing to risk it for a lower bid. If I can manage to get a room for 100/night - I can even search for 2 rooms.

Do you think HOTWIRE prices will be dropped? I'm finding a few for 195-200. Not sure if I should just get those.

If I can manage to get a room for 100/night - I can even search for 2 rooms.

$100 is not realistic for these dates.

We will advise on however you decide you would like to proceed, but if you need to go with one room/quad occupancy i wouldn't bid on PRICELINE for the reasons outlined above.

Your options are:

  • [*]search
HOTWIRE for quad occupancy and see if anything is offered within your desired star level and/or budget[*]search PRICELINE EXPRESS and look for the BED CHOICE option where you can book a room with two beds. While your reservation is still technically for double occupancy, i think there is much less of an issue if your room is reserved/designated for two beds (but this is still a risk you'll need to be willing to accept)

As far as prices dropping, there is no way to know if they will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay. It's a function of supply vs. demand and depends how actual new rooms/cancellations come in relative to expected new rooms/cancellations. For more on this subject see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
