Taking my daughter to NYC from April 24-27 for college grad gift.

Top choices of areas would be Chelsea, ESB,MSG,& TS. Also good with CPS,HK,MTE & MTW.

Looking to stay for under $150/nt if possible for a 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 star hotel. Any bidding help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been bidding almost every day for about a month with no luck. Maybe I'm just too early to get that price point? Should I wait until within 2 weeks of travel to get a better deal??

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Unfortunately, the Spring does start to get more expensive in NYC. What bids have you made so far in terms of star rating/max bid?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

I've bid in all of the listed areas by selecting 4 star rating and have bid as high as $150. i've also added the soho, tribeca area & done rebidding using areas that do not have a 4 star listing.

Looking to stay for under $150/nt if possible for a 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 star hotel.

I've bid in all of the listed areas by selecting 4 star rating...

To clarify... you have only bid 4* so far in the zones indicated but having failed at $150 you are now willing to lower your star rating?

To further clarify... is your goal the highest star rating your $150/nite budget will allow (or do you prefer a lower rated hotel if it's further below your budget?)

I would also be cautious heading towards the lower rated hotels in NYC as the consistency in star rating can become rather erratic... you could receive something totally acceptable at a great deal for the price OR you could dread returning to your hotel each evening and wish you were staying elsewhere.

If lowering your star rating to 3.5* (or less) NOTE the following zone 'caveats':

MTE - some of the 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway

CPS - includes the Hudson hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)

... would either/both of the above be acceptable?

If your budget is flexible i'm thining a 4* hotel might be had in the zones you have already bid in the $160-$180 area.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and at whatever star level you'd like to bid next, please re-list the acceptable zones as well as your maximum bid, we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I have also bid as low as a 2.5* rating, but when doing so my maximum bid was generally only $130. WHen I started bidding on the 4* hotels, I increased my maximum bid to $150.

to clarify my "wants", my goal is the highest star rating my $150/nite budget will allow. I'm mostly looking for a clean hotel, not too far from a subway stop, size isn't as big of an issue, and I would like to stay more in the central area of NYC.

If you could suggest a strategy for a 4* in the chelsea,ESB,MSG,TS,CPS,HK,MTE,& MTW areas with a maximum bid of $150.

ALso, just wondering if it's better to book now or try to wait unitl closer to the travel date? do the prices generally go up or down as the departure date gets closer?

thanks so much for the help!!

There is no way to know as it depends upon how expected new reservations/cancellations come in relative to actual new reservations/cancellations. There is a further discussion in our PRICELINE FAQ.

I don't think you'll be successful with your $150 bid as i think a 4* in this zone will likely take closer to the $200 area, but with time on your side let's give it a shot and see how it goes...

When bidding 4* in NYC you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

well I'm going to give it a try for the 4* for $150 - in your opinion what star level do you think is more realistic for the $150 price range? or would it help more to expand my bidding zones?

Thanks for the help; the forum is a great resource.

I've been trying to get a 4* room for 4/12-4/13 for the past week now and have had no luck whatsoever. I've gone up to $180 in bidding and never got anywhere.

I tried the process you have below with the zones and prices. I figured that my dates were close to this. After going through (and going up to $175), I still couldn't get anything to work. So I am wondering if I am doing it wrong.

BTW, I count five NYC zones to use for a 4* search: Coney (2*), Long Island City (3*), LES (3.5*), Morningside (3*), and Queensborough (3*).

Any advice?

vmuse,

Welcome to Betterbidding.

Please start a new thread with the details of your stay (desired budget per night, star rating, acceptable zones) and we would be happy to offer suggestions on how to proceed.

If you don't have the same date/s of travel as the original poster, rates and availability will likely vary, possibly significantly.

Found this deal on express deals late on Wednesday 4/17. amenities listed were pets allowed, restaurant, airport shuttle, business center & fitness center. Priceline also has a promotion going right now and with code metro10 I also got an additional $38.10 taken off of my total. So that made my total per night $114.30 before taxes & fees (after taxes & fees my total was $145.83/night). :D I have been searching for about 2 months & my time patience finally paid off. I had a back-up hotel booked which was a 2* with shared bathrooms for $164/nt pretax - so compared to that, this is the deal of the century!
