Priceline Hotel: booking Las Vegas hotels and travelling with kids

Just wanted to check with readers who have booked through Priceline and travelled with kids. Once we check in, I assume that we'll have to pay for the 3rd and 4th person in our family since Priceline bids are only for double occupancy. After doing some research, I realized that pretty much the majority of Las Vegas hotels charge for kids with the exception of Circus Circus and Excalibur.

Most Vegas hotels, especially at the higher star levels, now charge extra for 3rd/4th occupancy in the room, regardless of age.

Depending upon the age of your kids you may get a front desk clerk who won't charge (if your kids are very young like under six years old) less likely if your kids are 15 and 17 years old... the older they get the less likely you won't be charged.

You could also just not go to the front desk with the kids so they won't have any idea what age the kids are and ask for a room with two beds, but many Vegas hotels now charge more for rooms with 2 beds vs. 1 bed so depending upon the hotel you receive and their own policy you may still have to pay an additional fee.

As well, keep in mind that if you happen to be visiting Vegas during a very busy time and hotels are at or near full capacity, they may not even have a room with two beds to give you (extra fee or not) since all that you are booked for a is a room that is guaranteed to accommodate double occupancy.

Your other options include:

HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and guarnatees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search. This usually means two beds in the room, but the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc.

PRICELINE EXPRESS reservations are technically only guaranteed for double occupancy but some hotels offer a 'bed choice' option so that you reserve a room with two beds during the checkout process. While your reservation is still only for double occupancy, i suspect you won't have too much of an issue if you receive a room with two beds and only have one person go to the desk to check-in.
