aklawiter Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Hi,I'm wondering what would be a good bid for a Lower East Side hotel that has 3 1/2 stars. Recent comparable winning rates are about $99, but I was wondering if I could do any better than that. The dates are 4/4-4/5, and I already tried a bid at $91. So should I bid the full $99, or could I get something a little lower? Also, does anyone have any better suggestions of a location to stay? This is my favorite neighborhood, however I am open to others as long as I can get a good deal, hopefully under $100, with parking nearby that's not outrageous. Here, I found a parking garage for $26 nearby, so this was also good. Thank you!Andrew
thereuare Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! We really don't see too much bidding or winning bids in this zone, and i'm assuming that the $99 previous winning bids are for dates other than your own, which makes them less meaningful in relation to your own bids.Based upon current rates I think a 3.5* hotel at under $100/nite is going to be difficult for this nite so i would try the $99/nite bid you intended, then consider including other zones and/or lowering your star rating. Typically 'Downtown' is one of the least expensive zones in the city but i'd also look at midtown locations too since there is a lot of competition there which can often bring down rates, but $100 will still likely be difficult, imo.Are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones?Let us know how your next round of bidding goes and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aklawiter Posted March 13, 2013 Author Report Posted March 13, 2013 Yes I am familiar with the bidding zones, however, I do not want to stay in a place with really high parking prices either. I tried the $99 tonight, however that did not work. So would adding $1-2 to make it over 100 be a good idea? The reason that I requested this area was because recently someone had won on a $99 bid, so I decided to do about the same! Plus, I have an idea of what hotel it may be, so I was really hoping to get it! Any other suggestions, and or other areas that are not crazy expensive for parking?
thereuare Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 ...I do not want to stay in a place with really high parking prices either. The subway is your friend... why not park at whatever lot you'd like on the Lower East Side (or anywhere else in the city) and then take the subway to your hotel? As long as you're not in the heart of midtown, and flexible, you can usually find parking for $30 or less per 24 hours.I tried the $99 tonight, however that did not work. So would adding $1-2 to make it over 100 be a good idea? The reason that I requested this area was because recently someone had won on a $99 bid, so I decided to do about the same!As noted above the other user's win was for different dates, and while you can certainly try upping your bids by $1-$2, at current rates i think it will take substantially more than that.... or other areas that are not crazy expensive for parking?See my comments above... savings $20/nite in the cost of your hotel room by including as many acceptable zones as possible, and possibly paying $10 more per nite in parking, still puts you $10 ahead of the game. ;)Not that $99 has failed, what is your maximum bid for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aklawiter Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 After bidding in and near downtown NYC, I decided to venture out to Queens areas, and got this hotel for $90 before taxes and fees. I hope it is nice!
aklawiter Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 I ended up finding a hotel near the LGA airport that was closer to my budget. Now, I am looking for a room on Friday night as well, and will try bidding a little higher than before. I wanted to stay around $100 since I bought expensive tickets to the Yankees game, and was looking to now save a little bit of money. If an inner city hotel doesn't work, I may try looking again near the airport.
