Noon73 Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Hi,brand new here! And am looking to maybe use PL for a room in NYC april 4-7, 2013. Not sure how to go about this, and how to get the right hotel/price. Would like to get something for under $200. Any advice would be highly appreciated!
thereuare Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Do you have a preference as to which zone(s) you're willing to accept? Are you looking for the higher rated hotel that your budget will allow or the least expensive hotel at an 'x' minimum star rating?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Noon73 Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 I am definitely looking for something nice, most important is the cleanliness of the hotel (to be honest). I'm not stuck on a particular area, I don't need to be at Times square and play the tourist. Rather be in soho or greenwich village maybe, midtown? Would like to experience NYC like a local (almost ;))thanks for your help!
aklawiter Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Hello,I would say instead of bidding, maybe instead trying the deals on PRICELINE.express. I looked up your selected dates and found two 4 star hotels for under $200 per night. Plus, they have a deal going on at this time that would give you another 5% off, making the room cheaper, and giving you more spending money for the city. The only down side is that you do not know the name of the hotel. At the same time, there is also a Hilton for a relatively cheap price that could be an option as well. However if you booked this hotel, I would suggest booking through Hilton.com itself, rather than PRICELINE.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 ...I don't need to be at Times square and play the tourist. Rather be in soho or greenwich village maybe, midtown? Would like to experience NYC like a local (almost ;))Soho is often expensive so you can/should include it in your bidding, but i would also include other zones and not have your heart set on this area. There are virtually no hotels in Greenwich Village. At the 4* level i would look at the following zones:CPS, Cheslea, ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MW, Soho, TSLet us know which of these are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Noon73 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Report Posted March 15, 2013 Chelsea, ESB, soho, HK, ME and MW all look pretty good to me. :)

Noon73 Posted March 15, 2013 Author Report Posted March 15, 2013 ok, so..let me get this right. I bid the 1st zone, $120 and if that get's rejected I move on to the next zone with the same bid and so on until it circles back to the 1st zone then I up my bid?Thank you sooooo much for your help!
thereuare Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 ....if that get's rejected I move on to the next zone...I'm not sure you have it correct, as it depends which zone(s) you intend to add to your bidding, so let's backtrack one moment...Using the method at Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, list the SIX zones yo intend to use as your re-bid zones If you're confused just post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Noon73 Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Hi there,Here is what I just did....I started my bid $148 for MTW, MTE and Chelsea. Got rejectedre-bid 150 (with rebid zone)re-bid 153 re-bid 160all rejected. Should I now choose 3 other zones and start bidding all over?thanks
thereuare Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 No, you can't since there has a been a change in the last two days and there are now only FOUR re-bid zones at the 4* level so using the strategy above you won't make it to your maximum bid in just this one session. Why did you bid those zones and dollar amounts and not follow (any part of) the strategy above? We can revise the strategy to now take into account the fewer re-bid zones, but so we can tailor to your 'wants' for this trip, please let us know why the zones above and not any combination mentioned in the suggested strategy? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Noon73 Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 I guess I choose those areas because I actually saw them on the map and thought I could mix and match? :( sorry....Ok, so the thing is that I don't really care what area I'm in as long as I'm not too far south or too far north. And it's pretty easy to get around. What should I do next. I will follow whatever you say, step by step. Promise :D
thereuare Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 24 hours after your last rejected bid, try the following, using your FOUR re-bid zones (feel free to confirm your new re-bid zones with the board since they have changed since originally posted):Select 4* Chelsea, MTW and HK...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, ESB, Soho...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea, MTW, soho...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, ESB and HK...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea, ESB, HK...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW and soho...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, Soho, Chelsea...Bid $168, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $178, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, Soho, ESB...Bid $168, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $178, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, Soho, HK...Bid $168, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $178, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, Soho, Chelsea, ESB...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $183, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, Soho, Chelsea, HK...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $183, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea, ESB, Soho, HK, MTE and MTW...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Noon73 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Report Posted March 17, 2013 So, I have been going at this all morning. This is pretty time consuming!! Got all the way to MTE/MTW/Soho/Chelsea/ESB, got rejected at the 1st bid, and then I got this message...Try Again Right NowWe searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $180 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number ###-###-###-##. If you are willing to raise your price by $49 to $229 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now. Normally you are required to change additional items (add zones, star level, or dates) in order to try your request again. However we are able to extend this one-time opportunity to you because of the zone, quality level and dates you requested. What's next?
AaronJB Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 If you bid at that price, you will likely get a win. HOWEVER: that is not the *required* price for a win - the required price is somewhere in-between your last failed bid and the counter-offer.I would continue bidding higher by $5's - $185, 190, etc. The actual price required for a win may be closer to $180 than $229.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Noon73 Posted March 17, 2013 Author Report Posted March 17, 2013 Thank you Aaron! I did all of it. no luck :(Should I try again tomorrow? Lower the rating, maybe expand the area, Is the financial district pretty doable? Maybe add TS since I'm coming by train and that way will be close to Penn Station?I don't want to go up on price.
thereuare Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Downtown is do-able but is a less convenient choice to midtown if that is where most of your plans will be taking place, and would need to be 'a bit' cheaper then the equivalent rated hotel in midtown to be worthwhile, imo.If you're willing to raise your bid by $10 PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in MTE with Free Internet, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center) for $220/nite... using the link and code in my signature for 5% off brings the price down to just $10 more per nite then you have bid above. The other option(s) include:-waiting it out and hoping for lower rated in the days ahead-SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (as you may be successful fro the weekend nites for less then you have already bid, then find an alternate hotel/location for the first nite of your stay)-lower your star ratingLet us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 MTE is a really nice area and convenient to a lot of things. I'd rather go with the above PRICELINE Express option than start looking at downtown (in my opinion.)Than you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
