tetley14 Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 I have been monitoring both Hotwire and Priceline for a few weeks now. I have made a few low bids that have been rejected.Do you think I am better off continuing to bid once or twice a week, adding some re-bid zones and gradually increasing my price OR go for one of the Hotwire deals around 200-210. I know the MLB All-Star game is on through that weekend, would that raise prices through that $200 amount much? Thanks for any advice you could offer.Cheers
AaronJB Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Early July is still a bit on the line between pricey hotels with nicer weather and the hotter, later half of Summer where rates come down a bit. Additionally, the length of stay may be effecting rates and if the All Star game is going on, that's going to effect prices for that period but you may see a difference between those date/s and the remainder of your stay - would you be willing to split your stay if it would result in a better average per night rate? What bids have you made so far in terms of max bid, star rating and zone? What would be your desired max bid per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

tetley14 Posted March 11, 2013 Author Report Posted March 11, 2013 ... please click each of the links above before replying and we'll continue the discussion for your NYC trip.Thanks.I would prefer to stay in the same place rather than splitting unless its going to make a massive difference.I have bid up to 160 in MTE. i figure MTE is a little removed from the middle of the action right in times square? If i have to bid up to $200 to be successful am i betteroff going for the hotwire deals around the 200 mark?Any suggestion always appreciated
AaronJB Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Times Square is going to be more expensive and personally, I think NYC has a lot to offer in all areas. Times Square may be the most "widely known", but the city has a lot to offer in all areas. When I've gone there I really don't spend that much time in TS.Midtown East is a very nice area and I'd much rather go for the cheaper MTE and not be that far from TS than spend more to be in TS, but it depends on your plans/needs for the trip.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I'll also add:HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone (also is generally considered well located, although it a bit further from Times Square than MTE, but i agree with Aaron, you'll likely spend less time in Times Square then you think) for $187/nite. The property shows no amenities but is 90% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests, mostly 4.5/5.0 across the board on all the criteria HOTWIRE asks guests to rate, and has an impress 4.5/5.0 TA rating which implies that it should be a very nice hotel. If this ESB property is acceptable you could bid a little higher on PRICELINE towards this $187 rate in hopes of a better price, and/or also bid the MTW, ESB, CPS, and TS zones in addition to MTE... all of which at the 4* level are generally considered centrally located.Lastly if you do more forward with HOTWIRE and are from outside of the US, please do the following so that you can purchase on the HOTWIRE US site:Change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yellowdog Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 tetley14Thank you for sharing your result with the board! Also thanx for reporting this new amenity combo to the BetterBidding Hotwire Hotel ListEnjoy your stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.PS. I always take the TA reviews with a grain of salt. And keep in mind with TA reviews that many of those people paid full price, which is often significantly more, and may have different expectations at those price points.
