Hi, all. I am new to the board. I am trying to get a hotel near the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for a one night stay 4/9-10 or 4/10-11. I have tried to bid on the 3.5* properties in the Rochester sector but to no avail... started at $65 and went up to $81. Anyone have any experience staying/bidding in this area that could lend a hand? I would like to stay within walking distance of the hospital. Thanks!

If you look at the Detail Map of the Rochester zone you can see the Mayo Clinic a little to the east of the center. If you got worst case, a hotel on the outer northwest edge, it looks to be a little over a mile to the clinic. People have rather different definitions of "walking distance"?

Have you found the hotel list yet? The very first post in this Priceline - Minnesota area is a list of all hotels members have reported here as getting through PL bidding. Of course it is always possible to get an entirely different hotel, but it should at least give you an idea.

I just took a peek at the hotel list. Only 3* and lower have been reported here. If you are successful with your 3.5* bidding you might have a new hotel to report. Or perhaps a hotel on the 3* list has been upgraded to 3.5*s?

Also, you might check Hotwire to see what is available there. And just how large their zone area is (the zones are not necessarily the same between PL and Hotwire).

Is this an acceptable distance in a 'worst case scenario?

If not, you may want to use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and search '1 mile from Mayo Clinic Rochester' as this will center on the clinic and show you all the hotels, with prices for your specific dates directly on the map, which makes it easy to see how much more/less it would cost to stay closer/further away or to go up/down in star rating.

If you want to continue with PRICELINE let us knwo your maximum bid for a 3.5* before you'd consider lowering your star rating to 3*?
