Dimez Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Dear bidders,This will be my first time to book a hotel with priceline, so i'd like to get some advice.I have read a lot about the way of bidding, so I know how it works. What I don't know is the answer to the question "what is a good bid".I'd like to book a hotel in Calgary and in Vancouver. Below my preferences.Calgary: At least 3 stars, no specific area.Vancouver: At least 3, but I prefer 4 stars. It is necessary that it is close to facilities (PT, bike rentals etc) since we donot have our car in Vancouver. Best area is downtown I guess. What should I do and what would be the price to bid? I read about adding an area with no 4* hotels, so you can bid again. I think this is suitable for Vancouver?Kind regards,Dimez
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)First, we'll use this thread for the Vancouver stay. Please start a new thread for the Calgary stay.In terms of "It is necessary that it is close to facilities (PT, bike rentals etc) since we donot have our car in Vancouver. Best area is downtown I guess"With PRICELINE, if you bid for a particular zone, you have to be willing to stay *anywhere* within the shaded area. Please confirm which zone/s you would be okay with. With HOTWIRE you can try to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing based on the information offered, but there is no guarantees. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Additionally, please provide the date/s of travel so that we can get a sense of rates and availability.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Dimez Posted March 2, 2013 Author Report Posted March 2, 2013 I am aware of the fact that you bid for a particular zone, but some zones have more facilities as another zone, that was what I meant.Specified I'd like to have a hotel with at least 3* (but rather 4*) in downtown Vancouver for 5 and 6th of August. My budget is around 120 CAD, but of course I don't like to pay too much. What should be your advice to start the bidding?
thereuare Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Is this a two nite stay Aug5-7 or just the one nite of Aug 5th?What is your budget in US Dollars? From your post it sounds like you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* and want to bid up to your limit for a 4* before lowering your star rating for a 3.5*?Please confirm the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Dimez Posted March 3, 2013 Author Report Posted March 3, 2013 Yes it is a two night stay. From 5 till 7th of August 2013.Sorry for the inconvenience.I am willing to pay around the 100 dollar for a 3 star hotel and if it could be a 4*, I am willing to pay around the 130 dollar. (4* is my preference, but is not a must). When I place a bid, I will use that link!I am not sure how to start bidding, with the 4* or with 3*, which price, etc. Thanks!
