MORFCON Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Have bid up to $185 for A 3.5 or better hotel in Union Square EastI have followed all the bidding advice on here but every bid has been rejected. So do I wait till closer to my dates or up my bids, if so wot do you think its going to cost?
thereuare Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Rates look very high for these dates at the moment. There is currently a 3.5* hotel offered on PRICELINE EXPRESS in the USE zone for $185/nite with Restaurant and Fitness amenities (and an 8.0 or higher guest rating). This property has not yet been identified, but if you were willing to bid on PRICELINE up to $185/nite then this PRICELINE EXPRESS deal would seem to be good... and you also know ahead of time that it has a decent user review rating of 8.0 or better.Does this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or this PRICELINE EXPRESS link will take you directly to that section of the website.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. MORFCON Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 Yes Ive looked at the Priceline Express deals you mention, i know they are not guaranteed to be the same hotels, but on lookingat the 3.5 hotels at Union Square on Pricelines normal booking page there are only two, The Orchard, which we'd be happy with,or the Handlery, which we can get for less through Expedia with free cancellation?
thereuare Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 ...or the Handlery, which we can get for less through Expedia with free cancellation? Then why bid up to $185 previously??Currently the best rate i'm seeing at the Handlery for your dates is $201.50/nite, the same rate that is available thru Priceline retail... both of which are refundable. If this hotel is acceptable but the $15 savings are not worth locking in the non-refundable PRICELINE EXPRESS deal now then i would book one of these and use as a back-up while you continue to try PRICELINE / HOTWIRE in the weeks ahead, but at least this way you're protected from rates moving even higher from here. Please use the board's PRICELINE or Expedia links if you book this as a back-up and the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links as you continue to search to 'better' this deal.Your thoughts? MORFCON Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 Because the Handlrey isn't listed in the PRICELINE list on here but we would have been happy with one of the others listedOrchard/Galleria Park but don't consider the Handlrey value at that price. Also why would anybody take a chance on not knowing or being able to cancel for $15.00 a night, not exactly a great saving is it?
thereuare Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Also why would anybody take a chance on not knowing or being able to cancel for $15.00 a night, not exactly a great saving is it?Every user has different needs and what is important to them... if you are happy with the hotel and this was the only available means for a discount, $15/nite is better then nothing.I'll also add that what looks to be the Hotel Union Square (114 Powell) is available on HOTWIRE for $142/nite if this is of any interest.Keep us updated on your progress and whatever you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help along the way. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MORFCON Posted February 28, 2013 Author Report Posted February 28, 2013 Can you cancel a hotel through HOTWIRE or are all they're bookings final?Quick update. I have just looked at HOTWIRE but cant find the Union Square Hotel anywhereon there?
AaronJB Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 You cannot cancel a HOTWIRE reservation on the discount/opaque side of the service. On the retail/regular price service, the cancellation policies are listed with each hotel.I'm seeing a 3* in USW for $155 w/Free Internet Boutique Hotel Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Roll-in shower This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but if you click on "see details" and scroll down, there is a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating, so the mystery property does get very good reviews.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I have just looked at HOTWIRE but cant find the Union Square Hotel anywhere on there? If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children there is a 3.5* hotel offered in the USE zone with:Free Internet Boutique Smoke Free Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet ... and a 4.0/5.0 TA rating. My guess for this property is the Hotel Union Square. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. MORFCON Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 Yes ive found that but its priced at $217 inc taxes?
thereuare Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 Are you on the HOTWIRE U.S. site? Please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase. After doing the above, repeat your search for 2adults/2children... do you then see the 3.5* in the USE zone priced at $142/nite?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MORFCON Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 Sorry fella Ive tried everything you have said to do several times, even opened new pagesand tried in private browsing, but only get a 2* for $162 or a 3.5* at $185 + taxes.I wish i could find the deal your on about as I'd probablybook it?
thereuare Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 It's not uncommon for HOTWIRE to display one hotel on a given search and a different hotel to another user for the same search. What if you change your search to 2adults/1child... i no longer see the 3.5* i'm referencing above (maybe you will?) but in searching for 2a/1c i see a 4* in the Dupont Circle zone for $166/nite... are you able to see this one? If so, would this be of interested and/or within your budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.EDIT TO ADD: perhaps an even better option... PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the Dupont Circle zone for $138/nite with: Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Pets Allowed Restaurant Business Center Fitness CenterDo you see this when searching PRICELINE EXPRESS? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
MORFCON Posted March 2, 2013 Author Report Posted March 2, 2013 No cant see anything for Dupont Circle, where the hell is that anyway?Think we are going to book a backup hotel that we can cancel and then leave it till closer to our dates. Thanks for all your help and advice on this, hopefully it'll be offered again in a month or two. It's not uncommon for HOTWIRE to display one hotel on a given search and a different hotel to another user for the same search. What if you change your search to 2adults/1child... i no longer see the 3.5* i'm referencing above (maybe you will?) but in searching for 2a/1c i see a 4* in the Dupont Circle zone for $166/nite... are you able to see this one?
