jspan Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I have tried bidding on a 4* hotel in the Chelsea area.starting bid was $120Then I added Long Island, and bid $135Then I added Madison Square and bid $140I tried adding Lower East Side and bid $160 which also didn't workI also added Soho-Tribeca (which includes 4star hotels I'm happy with) and bid $180Is this far too low for September in New York?I'm happy with anywhere in the Soho, Tribeca, Chelsea area. We want to BR closer to the bars and restaurants than the touristy area like Times Square but maybe happy to compromise for the cheaper rates.Ideally my maximum is $180 plus tax.

thereuare Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 There are likely a few issues that are effecting your lack of success...This is a somewhat extended stay for NYC where rates can change rather significantly from one day to the next. If a hotel is sold-out (or doesn't offer any opaque availability) for just one nite of your date range, that hotel is out of the running to accept your bid for the complete stay. This lead into another point...There are not that many hotels at the 4* level in the zones you're bidding, so there are not that many hotels available to accept your bid. Some of the 4* hotels that do exist in these zones that have been won in the past are not seen that often. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option and/or including any other nearby zones (such as MTE and/or ESB)... or do you prefer to wait it out and hope for lower rates in the future for one complete stay?Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. jspan Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks for your suggestion! I decided to bid $215 in a different area - Madison Square Garden - Convention and managed to get Ramada Plaza New Yorker. This is for travel between 30 Aug and 4 SepI did a few bids in the areas I wanted (Soho, Tribeca etc) but couldnt get anything.I'm going to check out hotwire as well. I'll post my query in the hotwire thread.
