jtlld Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 Hi there,I am new to this forum. We will travel to NY from overseas and will stay in Manhattan in the end of May for 5 nights. we need 1 room. We would like them around Times Square if possible, so that is our number 1 choice, but I am okay with Midtown East, West or Central Park south as well. When is the best time to bid on priceline and hotwire? I heard for priceline, the later is better. However for hotwir, the earlier is better. Am I correct?I did try from $99 to $117 and all got rejected at Time Squre for 4*. I found on your priceline history map that someone bit for $117 at Hilton Time Squre before. Thanks a lot!
jtlld Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 Hi All,Looking for some advice on were to stay.It is our first time in NY. 2 person 1 room. Prefer staying in Times square or a suburb close to public transport in Manhattan. Looking for 3* or above. Rejected bid Time square 4*$99Rejected bid Time square 4*$105Rejected bid Time square 4*$117Appreciate any help i get Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 From your other priceline hotel thread the dates of this trip are from May 26-31?Seasonally this is an expensive time of year in NYC although rates don't look too bad at the moment. What is your maximum bid for this leg of your trip? In your other thread you mention a 3* or above... is it the same for this trip OR for this leg of your trip are you looking for a 4 star property? If less then 4* is acceptable for this leg of your trip are you more interested in a higher rated hotel outside of Times Square OR a lower rated hotel inside of Times Square? I'll add that you may want to see our comments about Hotels Near Times Square. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 We will use this thread for the June leg of your trip and your other NYC Hotel thread for the May leg of your trip. What are the actual dates of your stay in June? What is your maximum bid for this leg of your trip? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel (as it appears from your starting by bidding for a 4*) OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this side of your trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jtlld Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 Thanks for reply. The dates are from 26 May to 31 May & 1 June to 5 June. My budget is $150. 3* above with good review (4)from TA is fine such as The new yorker hotel , Yohel etc. Should I wait until April to look?
jtlld Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 Now I agree with you "that just about any midtown location (MidtownEast, MidtownWest, and UpperMidtown/CentralParkSouth) should give you a 'central location' and serve the typical visitor's needs well." How about other areas - soho , lower east side, financial district? Should I ticket them as well? You didn't mention them on your recommondation. Both legs of my trip will be the same 3*, 3.5* or 4* hotel with good review from TA. Budget is $150 so far.

If so, my guess would be the Roosevelt.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
AaronJB Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 There is no way to get a particular property or properties when bidding; you have to be willing to accept any property at the star rating chosen within the zone/s chosen.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 How about other areas - soho , lower east side, financial district? Should I ticket them as well? You didn't mention them on your recommondation.Midtown is better... but these zones are do-able if the price is right (significant savings vs. a similarly rated midtown property)Both legs of my trip will be the same 3*, 3.5* or 4* hotel with good review from TA. Budget is $150 so far. What about the HOTWIRE property above guessed to be the Roosevelt... at the high end of your star rating range and just $1 over budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 There is no way to know if rates will go down closer to your dates, but the end of May is generally a busier time with nicer weather. Glad to see you received the hotel guessed and that you're looking forward to your trip.Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
