NightCat Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 I've never used Priceline before. Since they only let you choose double occupancy, should I assume that our 2 kids will be able to stay in our room for free or might they charge more when we show up with 4 people instead of 2?
thereuare Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to take, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)PRICELINE EXPRESS can be an option as well if you purchase one of their properties that show 'BED OPTION" and choose a room type that has two beds. When bidding on PRICELINE the risk of receiving a room with only one bed is greater in large cities (such as NYC, Chicago, etc) where rooms are usually smaller VS. a place like Orlando which is accustomed to accommodating families and have a greater percentage of rooms with two beds in them.Where is it that you're traveling to? NightCat Posted February 21, 2013 Author Report Posted February 21, 2013 We're travelling to Washington, DC. We have 7 year old twins. We don't mind sharing a bed with them. We just don't want a hassle if we show up with 4 people instead of 2. Do you know if anyone has been charged extra or had problems because they brought their children after using Priceline to secure a room?
thereuare Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Yes, there are stories of issues when booking for double occupancy and showing up with quad occupancy. Many situations work out just fine, but the risks are greater in cities where rooms are frequently smaller then usual and hotels often have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed (which may be fire coded for double occupancy only). If you're not willing to take the risk HOTWIRE is an one option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone that you include in your search (although the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed or rollaway brought into the room) OR PRICELINE EXPRESS may be an option as well if you choose a hotel that shows the 'bed choice' option (although technically these rooms are still booked for double occupancy and the bed choice is listed as requested... we have not yet heard of any issues with any users not getting their 'requested' bed choice but this is still a fairly new product)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
