Priceline Hotel: Resort Maui (Kaanapali - Lahaina) The Westin Maui Resort And Spa

Hello, I am interested in bidding for the Hyatt or Sheraton or Westin Maui Resorts in Ka'anapali - Lahaina. However, I don't see the ability to choose the star rating for resorts. Are these considered 4* hotels or should I be bidding on these by choosing the resorts option when bidding on priceline? Sorry, I've only bid on hotels in the past and don't know how to proceed in this case. Can someone provide some guidance on bidding strategies here? Thanks for your help in advance!

The button for Resort bidding is at the bottom of the Priceline list - below the 1* button.

However, when you bid, you have to be willing to accept ANY Resort within the zone(s) you bid. There isn't any way to avoid certain ones like that Whaler. Also, there could be new hotels not yet reported that you could receive.

For bidding purposes, the Resort level is higher than the 4* level, but lower than the 5* level.

Although the Whaler has not be seen as a win on the bidding side of PRICELINE's service, it could re-appear at any time, how do you intend to avoid this property if you're bidding RESORT in this zone? As well, from the note at the top of the Priceline Hotel List:

This Priceline Hotel list is NOT a complete list of all hotels that Priceline offers in this area, it is ONLY a compilation of hotels that have already been reported on this forum. Hotels are added/removed by Priceline all the time, and star ratings can change at ANY time. As well, the geographic boundaries of an area are subject to change, so it is always a good idea to look at the Priceline map before purchasing. DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 24 hour window (CLICK HERE for information on how to add cities in order to bid again).

In light of the above, you MAY get a hotel that is NOT on this list, or get a hotel on this list but at a star level you didn't expect (if the star rating has changed).

How do you intend to avoid any new hotel that may have been added to the PRICELINE system or upgraded from a lower star level since last reported to the board?

If the above is more risk then you're willing to accept there may be other options thru HOTWIRE and/or PRICELINE EXPRESS. What are the dates of your stay and your expected budget per nite?

Thanks for both your replies. I was looking for a resort for Apr 5-12 and budget was about $200/night.

Unfortunately PRICELINE EXPRESS is not showing any Resort class properties for your dates.

HOTWIRE is showing a 4* hotel in the Ka'anapali zone for $239 which from previous reports is a match for the Westin so that would be our best guess for this one (although the Whaler has never been seen by the board as a win in this zone it could appear at any time and have the same exact amenity set as the Westin... this would be very unlikely, but always a remote possibility, so i mention it so that you have all the information).... OR you could try bidding on PRICELINE and hope that the Whaler doesn't re-appear after a multi-year hiatus.

Used the PRICELINE links here to bid for Resorts... but no success so far. Any suggestions on bidding strategies or how to proceed for 4/5-4/12 ?

Started Bidding at $160 for RESORT in the Lahaina region only; failed bid

Re-bid at $170 for RESORT in Lahaina & Kahului (no resorts); failed bid

Re-bid at $175 for RESORT in Lahaina & Kahului (no resorts) & Kihei (no resorts); failed bid

Using MAPS and HOTELS.com and looking at the three hotels above you're hoping for, one is sold-out (indicating high demand for these nites) and the other two are about $400+ per nite (confirming high demand for these nites)

What is your maximum bid for this trip? If not successful with PRICELINE at the Resort level up to your maximum bid, what is your game plan? (increase budget, lower star rating, add nearby zones, book something non-opaque, cancel trip, etc?)

Using the PRICELINE links here, I resumed bidding after 24 hours.

First bid of $205 for Resorts - Lahaina, Maui; failed;

Priceline counter-offered $244/night; rejected the counter-offer;

Second bid of $215 for Resorts - Lahaina, Kahului (no resorts); SUCCESSFUL!

Westin Maui Resort & Spa - $215/night - for 4/5-4/12. (Incl. Taxes and fees: $248.85/night)
