Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you enter 'New York City, NY' into the search box on the top right of the board, which zone(s) are you willing to accept? What is the minimum star level you'll accept? (if less than 4*, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is the goal the least expensive hotel at your minimum star level)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click each of these links before replying.

Thanks.

Welcome to Betterbidding.

Please confirm which zones you would be interested in bidding for, as well as what would be your desired star rating. Also, is your desired budget $130 per night "all in" (including taxes/fees) or $130 + taxes/fees?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Hi guys,

thank you for your replies. 130$ is without tax/fees and I think about 3* upwards. All zones up to Brooklyn/Coney Island/Harlem.

To avoid any confusion, please indicate the zones, by PRICELINE name, that you are willing to accept, and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sorry for any confusion. I have tried it yesterday for the first time to get experience. I wanted 3* or 3 1/2* with max. 130 - 140$. Then I saw that not every zone has 3 1/2*, so that I would have more free rebid zones. Pls tell me if my bid was reasonable or not or should I change my strategy? Thank you.

I bid 3 1/2* in TS, beginning with

90$ -> denied

100$ added Zone Coney Island (which doesnt have 3 1/2*) -> denied

105$ added Morning Sights Harlem also -> denied

125$ added UES ... also denied

130$ added UWS ... also denied

Then I added Chelsea Area with 135$. Also denied.

Should I change something?

Yes, you should change your bidding strategy as adding a 'live' zone (one which has the star rating you're bidding) at the end of your bidding strategy can easily result in an overbid. For example, if a hotel was avaiable in Chelsea at $110/nite you never gave yourself a chance to win it at less than $135.

To being, are you willing to pay more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip? Exactly which zones are you willing to accept? (if you're willing to accept different zones at the 3.5* level vs. the 3* level please least the acceptable zones at each star level)

Lastly, is the above the only bidding you've done so far for this stay, or as you've previously posted, have you done other bidding which included all zones except Brooklyn/Coney Island/Harlem?

Hi thereuare,

thanks for your hint. Ive just done one bidding so far to get the first experience and to unterstand how it works.

I try to understand what you wrote but I couldnt really get it 100%.

My goal is to get a 3* or 3.5* for a reasonable price (maximum 135$ without tax and fees), all zones except Brooklyn/Coney Island/Harlem. It s just a process of elimination. I dont like those 3 zones cause they are too far from the central parts of NY. Wherever I get a 3* or 3.5* doesnt matter.

So what should be my next step, thereuare?

3.5* again not starting in TS, but in another zone (maybe a little bit further from TS)?

or 3*? (for 3* I dont see more free rebid zones as 3.5* -> smaller chance to rebid?)

Thanx a bunch
