jpaty Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 I've been reading through the posts here for a while and figured I'd give the priceline thing a go. I read through the ways to rebid and other strategies and I think I have come up with one, hoping for some feedback before I pull the trigger. I am travelling to Chicago March 9 - 13, 2013 and I would like to stay in a 4* in North Michigan Ave/River North (I am OK with staying the the Loop, however my preference is NMA). I checked out hotwire and found a 4* for $80/night (which as far as I could tell was Felix or Sax), so I figured that'd be my upper limit. Then, since Chicago has 7 rebidding areas, I have 8 possible bids, plus their combinations. So, with that said, here is my initial plan - feel free to comment where necessary.Bid 1: NMA - $40Bid 2: NMA + 1 rebid - $45Bid 3: NMA + 2 rebids - $50Bid 4: NMA + 3 rebids - $55Bid 5: NMA + 4 rebids - $60Bid 6: NMA + 5 Rebids - $65Bid 7: NMA + 6 rebids - $70Bid 8: NMA + 7 rebids - $75
thereuare Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Your strategy is acceptable, but as your bids at $50 and under have almost no chance at being accepted, i would sooner not make those bids and use smaller increments near the end of your bidding, such as:Select 4* NMA-River North...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75Whether to follow your posted strategy or the one i posted is personal preference.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jpaty Posted February 14, 2013 Author Report Posted February 14, 2013 Used the strategy laid out by thereuare, exactly as written, and landed Hotel Felix (where I pretty much anticipated) for $73/night. Pretty happy about it, a little nervous about the mixed reviews and small rooms but going as a couple I am not anticipating it being a big problem. Thanks for the help! Cheers.
AaronJB Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Solid deal for this property. While it gets mixed reviews and rooms are small, it's a convenient location sort of in-between River North restaurants and Michigan Ave. shopping. There's also a very nice Whole Foods a couple of blocks East for snacks/drinksThank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
