txtrvlr Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I've been trying for a week to get a 3* or 4* hotel in areas 1, 2, 3 and 4 for under $100 after seeing several hotel wins in the $65-$85 range. I've made various bid combinations starting at $65 all the way up to $125, with no luck. Today I searched for conventions and learned the Ace Harware convention is that weekend. I'm catching a cruise ship out on 2/24 and there are probably many people on the ship staying in town the night before. So I assume I will have to go higher. Any idea how much higher based on similar past situations? I'm probably going to book a reservation for a place near the airport and keep trying. I'm thinking I may not have much luck until we get closer to the actual date, maybe two or three days beforehand. Any thoughts or strategies to share? Thanks.
AaronJB Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 If there is considerable traffic for the date, there is no guarantee that the rates will come down closer to the dates - they could easily stay around these levels and potentially go higher. Please provide the names of the zones instead of numbers, as well as your desired max budget per night (unfortunately, HOTWIRE rates do look noticeably higher-than-normal for this night.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 My guess at the moment is about $150/nite... if you are arriving late in the evening you may also want to consider staying by the airport as it will likely save you quite a bit.Try our MAPS and HOTELS.com for help with a back-up reservation (but check the terms of the room rate you choose to ensure that it's fully cancelable)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. txtrvlr Posted February 9, 2013 Author Report Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks for your responses - they confirm what I thought, which is good to know.My budget initially was $100/night but I'm willing to go up to $150. I would like to stay in one of the following areas:Convention Center and Warehouse - Arts DistrictDowntown New OrleansFrench QuarterGarden DistrictI will make a reservation near the airport and keep trying. Thanks, again.
txtrvlr Posted February 9, 2013 Author Report Posted February 9, 2013 I ended up using your HOTWIRE link to purchase a hotel room for the night.Felt this was a good deal given the lack of success I had using PRICELINE (I bid up to $145). It's a little more than I was hoping to pay but this particular night seems to be in high demand. I'm very pleased with the location, the hotel and the price.
thereuare Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Congratulations on your success! While a little more than you originally intended to spend, given the higher then usual rates for these dates, glad to see you're pleased with the results. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase. txtrvlr Posted March 9, 2013 Author Report Posted March 9, 2013 Hotel was very nice. I think the reason hotel prices were so high the night I stayed there was because the Rock and Roll Marathon was held the next morning in downtown New Orleans - the start of the race was just a block or two from our hotel. New Orleans was jammed with people that night.
