sergioiwa Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Hello,This is my first time bidding in Priceline, please advise me for the following:Date: 8/19/2013 to 8/23/2013Area: Madison Square Garden - Convention AreaStar Rating: 3.5* or 4*Already tried US$ 150,00 with no lucky. At the Express Deals, there is a Hotel in this same area with 3.5* for US$ 158,00, is this a good deal? Should I wait for another deals or do you think it is hard to get a better price?Regards,Sergio
thereuare Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Summer is typically a slow time of year in NYC and unless there is a specific event driving rates higher during this time frame, i would expect lower prices in weeks/months to come. However, one caveat to this is if you're only bidding this one Chelsea-MSG zone... is this the only zone you're willing to accept? If so, this limits the number of hotels that can accept your bid and you may not be able to do as well as if you include other nearby neighboring zones which may also be acceptable. Is there a reason you're only bidding the Chelsea-MSG zone... do your plans require that this is the only zone that will work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sergioiwa Posted February 7, 2013 Author Report Posted February 7, 2013 Good to know that this is a slow time in NYC.Well, since I am going with my wife, our trip to nyc is going to be mainly for shopping. So this is the best area in my opinion to stay near stores like Macys NY(for my wife) and BH Photo(for me), maybe I could include the Empire State Building area, but since it is a wider area I could end up in a south eastern hotel and being far from my goals, I know that we can use subway but we prefer to be near by foot.Thank you for you advises and I will keep trying.Cheers,Sergio
thereuare Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 It's your trip and you know your plans best, but there is LOTS of shopping all over the city... what other 'iconic' stores are you considering besides Macy's and B&H Photo? I suspect many of them would be outside of this zone. While i wouldn't necessarily suggest staying Downtown (although Century 21 is down there and likely a stop on your shopping route) at the 4* level most midtown locations such as MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB all work well for the average visitor; but again, it's your stay and you know your needs better then we do.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sergioiwa Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 Well, I was looking into the areas, I could change to this parameters:Date:8/19/2013 to 8/23/2013AreasMadison Square GardenTimes SquareMidtown West Central Park SouthHotels: 4* and 3.5*My budget is around $130~150 per night. Is there any strategy for this? If it is not good, what can you suggest? A higher price maybe or wait a little more? If you suggest to wait a little, what is your suggested Month to make my decision? Thanks again.Cheers,Sérgio
thereuare Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 AreasMadison Square GardenTimes SquareMidtown West Central Park SouthNote that at the 3.5* level the CPS zone has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms, even by NYC standards... would this be acceptable or would you not want to bid this zone at the 3.5* level (at the 4* level all the 'known' hotels are fine, imo)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sergioiwa Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 If I can get a reasonable price the room size should not be a problem.
thereuare Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Assuming still within your $150 maximum bid, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Let us know the above and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sergioiwa Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 Yes, for a 4* only I could go for $170 maybe, I don't know if it helps.
thereuare Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Given that rates are currently a little higher then i would expect for the summer i wouldn't chase this one as high as $170 at the moment (unless you want to because getting this does sooner rather than later is more important then the lowest price). HOWEVER, i did find there is a NY Gift Show at the Javitz Conference Center but i'm not sure how big of a draw that is and if it is effecting hotel pricing or not.If you are willing to wait, i would use $140 as your maximum bid for a 4* hotel and $120 as your maximum bid for a 3.5* hotel... we can adjust it upwards as you get closer to your dates. Does this sound like a good plan to you OR will you be nervous until you get your hotel accommodations situated and would rather pay a little more to get this done sooner rather than later. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. sergioiwa Posted February 13, 2013 Author Report Posted February 13, 2013 Yes, it is fine for me, just for how long do you think will I have to wait to make my final decision?
thereuare Posted February 13, 2013 Report Posted February 13, 2013 Yes, it is fine for me, just for how long do you think will I have to wait to make my final decision? Not sure what you're asking... the idea is that you start bidding now, hoping to grab some 'low hanging fruit', bidding once or twice a week. If by June you're not successful then you begin to raise your maximum bids. Does that make sense? Are you ready to start bidding now? If so, you're still looking at MSG, TS, MTW, and CPS at the 4* level (maximum bid $140) and at the 3.5* level (maximum bid $120)? Please confirm that this is correct and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Also, you're ok if you land a small room at the Hudson Hotel as referenced above in this post? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sergioiwa Posted February 14, 2013 Author Report Posted February 14, 2013 Sorry if I misunderstand you, as I said it is my first time trying to get a room bidding, thats exactly what I asked for, how to make the buddings, trying twice a week using what you are going to suggest. Thanks and just waiting for your strategy.

sergioiwa Posted February 15, 2013 Author Report Posted February 15, 2013 Ok, I know how to re-bid, but about the re-bid zones, where can I find this re-bid zone list? I read that re-bid zones are zones that doesn't have the hotels with the star level that I am trying, correct?

sergioiwa Posted February 15, 2013 Author Report Posted February 15, 2013 Got it.For 4* I found this areas for rebid zones:Queensborough BridgeMorningside Heights - HarlemConey IslandLower East SideUpper East SideLong Island CityJust 3.5* what area does include a 3.5* hotel in the list above? Thanks,Sergio
thereuare Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Try this (as this way you'll be able to double check each time before you bid to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked):1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone . 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
