mell312 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Put in one bid at $120 for NYC East Side 4* and got the Marriott NYC East Side. Unless I'm missing it, this hotel has only been reported as 3.5* in the past. Not bouncing off the walls over the deal, but not disappointed either. Price to book through the hotel itself is $169. Close to Grand Central Station so that works great with our travel plans. Wishing I had bid Central Park South first a little, but this is close to Grand Central Station so that works great with our travel plans. Thanks as always for the assistance provided in these forums. Now if only you could help with the weather!

thereuare Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Enjoy your stay. mell312 Posted February 6, 2013 Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 I'm adventurous. I'll try anything. Not looking for any Mexican though...got plenty of that at home in Texas.
thereuare Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I'll try anything. Not looking for any Mexican though...got plenty of that at home in Texas.want to trade, as Mexican is the one thing i feel we don't have enough of (good mexican at least).Since you're adventurous as a late nite meal you can try my often recommended on the SOUTH EAST corner of 53rd St and Sixth Ave.. you want the one that is there from 7:30pm-4am. The white sauce, and hot sauce, is what makes this place shine and the reason for the long line at most hours of the nite.Good burgers down the road at Jackson Hole Wyoming on Third Ave at 35th St.If downtown i often recommend the 'grandma style' pie at Adrienne's Pizza Bar (54 Stone St)... it's a restaurant, not a slice shop. More pizza recommendations is John's Pizza on Bleeker St (not the Times Square location) also a pie shop, no slices... across the street on Bleeker is Keste which is high end (read: expensive for pizza) but very good neopolitan style pizza where pies are individual but range from about $13-$18.While i'm not such a fan of the Korean style of cooking at your own table (japanese hibachi watching them cook 'yes'... Korean i cook myself 'no') but something that you probably don't have in your own home town is Gyu-Kaku which has a good Happy Hour menu (you need a couple of meats per person to make a meal).Oh yeah, and if you like sushi Jin NYC on the lower east side has a $3.50 happy hour menu (see Happy Hour hours at their website) where everything on their Happy Hour menu is $3.50.... HUGE assortment of rolls, salads (avocado salad is great and has a lot of avocado in it) and a lot of beer, wine and sake that is included in the $3.50 each price.
