I spent a lot of time bidding for 3.5*-4* hotels in Boston for 2-3 nights around 3/12/13. I'm from the Boston area, so I had fun playing with my "free bids," trying to get the best deal that would fit my needs. Because I didn't want to pay astronomical parking fees, I looked for a downtown hotel that is easily accessible by the T. I also placed many bids for under $50/night in zones like Cambridge West that I could justify taking a cab to or parking at.

My first bid was $71 for the Boston Common - Theater District zone. Priceline offered me the option to increase my bid by something like $22 for an immediate rebid. I declined and decided to go with some really low-ball bids while slowly adding on more zones. Unfortunately, all of my low-ball bids starting in the low-40s and increasing $2-3/bid through the low-60s were not accepted. When I was running low on bids, I increased to the 70s but only bid in the downtown zones. When these were turned down, I did a new search, and decided to try for only 4* hotels in Boston Common - Theater District again, using the free bid trick (there are 5 zones in Boston without 4* hotels). I started bidding at $80, increasing $5 with each bid. My bid was finally accepted at the Omni Boston Parker House for $90.

Seeing what others have gotten at the Omni, I feel that I could have gotten a better deal, maybe saving $20-$40 over the two nights if I hadn't been so antsy to get a bid accepted. Overall though, I can't complain. Priceline saved me 69% off of the Omni's published price.

Congrats on your success.

Very nice win for this extremely historic property, and hope the hotel will work well for your travel plans. Additionally, rates - and what is required for a win - varies (sometimes substantially) from day-to-day.

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.
