thestroh Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 Apologies for the format of the post.I have another question which someone may be able to help with. For my trip, i really only need two things from the hotel:1) it is on the strip or very close;2) it be some sort of vegas type hotel (by this i mean themed or unique in some way - not a holiday inn) - i am under the impression that there aren't many of the generic hotels in vegas so this shouldnt be much a problem, but as a first timer, i just want to make sure.Lastly, i dont care how amazing the room or view is as i plan on spending very little time in the room (obvious some standards on cleanliness etc.) The overarching interest (outside of the two requirements above) will be price.Any tips on how to get a hotel with these requirements? i think hotwire/pricelilne is the way to go, but want to make sure to cover all my bases so that i dont miss out on something or endd up somehwere i dont want to be.

thestroh Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 Additional information: Although it is not a hard ceiling, I'd like to spend less than $100 per night (specifically if i am not picking the actual hotel and location via one of these services). I'd be happy to spend more if there is a good deal, but I really don't intend spending much time in the room and therefore don't see spending the money for a 5* hotel (even if it was a great deal). I came upon the $67 dollar deal because it is 4* which figures to be close (or on) the strip and would most likely guarantee me a spot in a "las vegas" hotel. (defined mostly by theme or having a casino etc.)I am attending a wedding (and reception) that is being held at the Mandaly Bay so would like to be fairly close if possible. Thank you again for all the help this board provides. It is excellent.
thereuare Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I am attending a wedding (and reception) that is being held at the Mandaly Bay so would like to be fairly close if possible. You can't be close to the Mandalay Bay and be close to the center of the strip, as Mandalay Bay is all the way at the southern most end of the strip. The previous hotel where we guessed the Luxor would put you right next to the Mandalay Bay so it would be good in that respect, as well as give you a themed hotel Vegas experience... but the location is not ideal (but do-able... take the tram to Excalibur and start walking north to the center of the strip from there)I think you have to make a decision what you prefer... a better hotel that is further from the Mandalay Bay vs. going with this likely Luxor and being close to the wedding location.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thestroh Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 That makes perfect sense. I guess my preference would be closer to the wedding. Most of my buddies will be at the luxor, so that would be a plus. I read the hotel is not great, but probably ok for my purposes (ie clean).Id prefer a non-smoking room, but that doesnt seem like it can be done.
thestroh Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 Hi Thanks in advance. I wasnt sure if i was to start a new topic or put it under my last post (i figured id start a new topic and then update both for convenience of other browsers).4/26-4/29, $854-star Hotel in The Strip - NorthThis Hotel features the following amenities:Resort Free Parking Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Spa Services Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible path from the room entrance to the window, the bed and the bathroom; accessible hardware and minimal resistance to open the door; Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Thanks in advance.$25 resort fee
thereuare Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 The Strip North property matches both the Mirage and Treasure Island so either of these would be my best guess for this one. The Tresuare Island is seen much more often then the Mirage, but you should at least be prepared for either. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thestroh Posted February 4, 2013 Author Report Posted February 4, 2013 Hey - wanted to close this out with my result - booked tonightTreasure Island. Thanks for all you guys got oing here.
thereuare Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Congratulations on your success! This is a much nicer hotel then the Luxor and i also like this portion of the strip better then the south trip, so should be a nice stay.Couple of tips for your travel:1) the local CAT bus and the Deuce stop in front of Treasure Island and also at Mandalay Bay. However, to get the express/limited stop (recommended) you'll need to get the bus the Fashion Show Mall across the street from Treasure Island2) if you are a Starbucks drinker instead of the overpriced Starbucks prices (i mean overpriced from regular starbuck's prices ;) ) at Strip locations you can go to the Fashion Show mall across the street for 'regular' priced Starbucks.3) the Fashion Show Mall also has decent lunch options like Chipolte, Grimaldi's of Brooklyn, etc. without the (again) overpriced strip prices (ie- expect slightly higher then 'regular' mall rates)4) while at the Fashion Show Mall there is an ABC Store that has decent prices for snacks, soda, wine, beer, etc. that you can take back to your room to avoid the $4 soda machine at the hotelThank you for sharing your win with the board.
