I re-visited Hotwire and now the 3* hotel mentioned above that you guessed was the South Seas has the South Seas listed as the Compare To hotel. Have you found that Hotwire ever matches the unlisted Hotwire hot Rates hotel deal to be the same as the Compare To hotel they list together?

Posted

The 3* HOTWIRE property is not the Savoy... my best guess here would be the The Park Central.

As far as your other questions, are you referring to the strikout price that HOTWIRE shows above the Hotrate price or on the right side where they say "See hotels in this class"?

Thank you. Regarding my question, in my page view for Hotwire hot Rate it will show a 'Compare To' hotel below the secret hot Rate hotel.

So for the 3* Hotwire hot Rate Hotel for $195/night in South Beach - Oceanfront Collins below that offer it shows a 'Compare To' hotel that is the South Seas that can be booked for $259/night.

However, once I click on the South Seas Hotel which I can book for $259/night that new page shows the South Seas on top for $259/night and then a 'Secret Hotel in South Beach - Oceanfront Collins area' for $195/night.

So depending on which page I am looking at the 'Compare To' hotel can be on the top or bottom. Does that help clarify my question as to whether Hotwire will have both the 'Compare To' hotel and the 'Secret Hotwire hot Rate Hotel' listed together on the same page?

Posted

The 'Compare to' price is not the retail rate for the actual hotel you're about to purchase, but rather an average rate for hotel(s) in that zone of that star rating for your dates. I wouldn't read too much into this figure and never use this information in trying to identify the property.

If the above doesn't answer your question then i'm not fully understanding it, but perhaps this general comment will help:

Any hotel names that HOTWIRE shows on their 'opaque' pages, such as "See Hotels in this Class" or "Our x-star hotels include" have no reflect on the hotel offered, it's just examples of hotels/brands that may be offered at that star level.

I would like to bid on Priceline for a 4* on South Beach - Oceanfront Collins from 2/9 - 2/12.

My thought is to start at $153 and work up to $193, unless you have other suggestions.

My concern is that based on your list of 4* Priceline hotels in that zone, both The Perry and Lords South Beach could be selected.

The Perry has terrible reviews right now due to construction and even though I've seen some successful posts saying Priceline purchases were refunded, I don't care to go through the hassle.

The Lords South Beach lifestyle focus is not a match for my wife and I.

So my gut tells me the risk (getting The Perry or Lords South Beach) isn't worth the reward (cheap hotel and perhaps winning Loews, Surfcomber, Sagamore, Raleigh, National or Shore Club). Do you have any recent Priceline winning bids from this zone to help guide my decision?

Thanks for your help!

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. If you ultimately use PRICELINE the thread will be moved to that section of the board when you use the EDIT TO REPORT WIN button on the lower right of this page.

If you're not able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose, then PRICELINE is probably not the beset option for you for this trip.

I'm not sure i understand your current position, as you start by mentioning that you want to bid on PRICELINE from $153 up to $193, but then later say that you're not sure it's worth the risk.

If you bid up to your maximum bid and received one of the hotels you didn't want, would it be worth it at that price? If yes, then bidding makes sense as while it may not be the perfect hotel it supplied a good value to you at that price. If no, then i wouldn't bid on PRICELINE for this stay. (or i would choose other zones where i'm more comfortable with all the hotels in that zone)

Thank you. I used your HOTWIRE link to book the 3* for $195/night and it ended up being the South Seas Hotel as you guessed in an earlier post. My wife is pleased and your assistance is much appreciated!
