chinofx Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Hello,I am looking into going to New York with my wife from April 2-6. The prices on Hotwire seem to be quite expensive for those days >$200 for anything, So I thought I would try my luck with Priceline. I do want to stay in the typical touristy areas MTE, MTW, TS, CPS. Would this be possible to achieve for about $150/night? I would like a 3* at the minimum. Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Seasonally this is an expensive time of year... $150 might be enough but you also may need to inch your way towards the $165 area to be successful. We will suggest a strategy for you to follow, but do note the following when bidding 3.5* and under in NYC:CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which is centrally located but has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards), would this be acceptable?MTE - some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable? Also, since your budget may fall a little short, have you also considered including ESB and/or MSG/Convention Center just to give more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid price? Please confirm the zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chinofx Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Hello,Yes, CPS and MTE would both still be acceptable. I think I would still like to avoid staying in ESB/MSG as I would like to be in the action!. I have been reading good things about Upper West Side and was wondering if this would be a good idea to add to the list. MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, UWSThanks
thereuare Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 ... I would like to be in the action!. I have been reading good things about Upper West Side and was wondering if this would be a good idea to add to the list. What type of 'action' are you looking for? For the typical visitor i wouldn't consider UWS to be 'in the action' and i would consider ESB and MSG to both be well located... the former has the Union Square area and the latter Chelsea and the meat packing district which are now 'hot spots'... but it's your stay and you need to be comfortable with the zone(s) you choose. As well, UWS isn't always the easiest to get to other parts of the city for any tourist-y things you intend to do... where as in midtown you can often walk to a subway line that doesn't require a transfer to get to your ultimate destination. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chinofx Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 After doing some more research, I think I will go with your suggestion by removing UWS having MTE, MTW, TS, CPS as well as MSG/ESB (especially since budget is very important). Do you think I would be able to get significantly below $150? What added taxes/fees are on top of the Priceline final price for New York? Thanks
thereuare Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the MTE zone for $128/nite with:Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower My best guess for this property is the Hilton New York Manhattan East. Assuming this property is acceptable, i'd lower your star rating for a 3* to $125/nite in order to make sure you don't overbid, and try as follows:When bidding 3* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zones. chinofx Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Posted January 28, 2013 Unfortunately, I started my bidding a couple days later as I was waiting for some good flight prices. I bid up to $125 but wasn't able to get a hotel :(Did I miss my oppurtunity?
thereuare Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 The previously referenced $128/nite hotel is no longer offered on HOTWIRE... at current rates my guess is that you'll need to work your way towards the previously mentioned $165 figure for a 3* property.Let us know your current maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chinofx Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Posted January 28, 2013 Yes it is April 2-6. I am looking for cheaper alternatives (<$130/night). I read the hotel list and it looks like it might be the Astor on the Park?
AaronJB Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 Please keep all posts regarding this stay within this thread - thanks. The Astor On the Park has been seen with this amenity set previously, so that would be my guess, as well.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
