delamar Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 Hi,in the past I have used betterbidding for our stays in the West, this time we plan a trip to the East of the USA. for our 3 nights in Miami we are looking for a hotel in the range of 4 stars, near South Beach. That would mean zones 13,14 and 15. 1st Question: Is it wise to bid for 1 night, and extend our stay if the hotel that we win is looking good? We do not mind to stay in 2 different hotels, because we arrive late at night the 1st night. 2nd Question: Our max budget is $140 per night, is this a realistic target for a good 4* hotel? Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 That would mean zones 13,14 and 15. The zone numbers will change as PRICELINE adds, removes or changes the names of the zones, please use zone names instead of referencing them my numbers. This helps avoid any confusion in the future as well as makes it easier on us to know right away which zones you're considering, rather then first needing to go look up what the numbers represent:South Beach - CentralSouth Beach - Collins Avenue OceanfrontSouth Beach - Ocean Drive 1st Question: Is it wise to bid for 1 night, and extend our stay if the hotel that we win is looking good? We do not mind to stay in 2 different hotels, because we arrive late at night the 1st night. No, for a few reasons... first, you can only add additional nites up to the same number of nites as your original win. So if you purchase one nite you'll only be able to add one nite. As well, even when offered, there is no assurance that you'll be able to add additional nites (or if you can if it will be at the same rate). Your arrival date is on a Sunday, typically the slowest nite of the week for hotels, so there is a very good chance that rates and availability will be different for the remaining two nites vs. the first nite.2nd Question: Our max budget is $140 per night, is this a realistic target for a good 4* hotel?Could be a little tight, but you'll have plenty of re-bid zones so you'll have an opportunity to start low and gradually increase your bids, and we can give it a try, but at current rates my guess is that you'll need to bid a bit higher. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if/when you're ready to bid (and if you've decided to bid for the complete stay) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. delamar Posted February 2, 2013 Author Report Posted February 2, 2013 I am sorry that I didn't reply to this post earlier, I did turn on to receive email updates but did not get any..Ok I think we will try to win/book a cheap 1st night near the airport since we will arrive late, and just go for the 2nd and 3rd night at this location in one bid. Those mentioned zones are correct. Ok I will up it to $150 max for the two nights. So to sum it up:Looking to bid on a 4 * Hotel for 2 nights, 4/8 and 4/9. Max $150. Zones: South Beach - CentralSouth Beach - Collins Avenue OceanfrontSouth Beach - Ocean DriveI will start bidding tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

delamar Posted February 3, 2013 Author Report Posted February 3, 2013 Just tried it, none were accepted, no counteroffers. Just try again tomorrow with the same amounts? Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 If $150 is your maximum bid i would only bid every 2-3 days as any more than that and you'll likely just get frustrated (and that's when bidding mistakes happen ;) )You may also want to consider HOTWIRE which has a 4* hotel in the Central South Beach zone for $131/nite with:Complimentary Breakfast Free Internet Boutique Near Beach Shuttle Pool Hi-Speed Internet Golf Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in ShowerThe Riviera Suite South Beach would be my best guess for this one.... and a 4* Condo in the Ocean Drive zone for $127/nite with:Near Beach Studio Kitchen Daily Housekeeping Fitness Pool Restaurant 24hr Front Desk Hi-Speed Internet Boutique Condo --> i don't have a guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
