theshopper Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 I needed a hotel (2 rooms, 1 night) close to Irwindale and narrowed my search to the Monrovia-Duarte zone:First bid: 3*, $52, rejected. Added 2.5*, same bid, rejected. There are some decent 2.5* hotels in this zone by the way. Waited 24 hrs because I didn't want to get stuck with a 2.5* hotel elsewhere.Next bid: 3*, $56, same zone, rejected. Added Glendora/San Dimas zone and kept 3* knowing there are zero 3* hotels in the Glendora area, so if I were to win here, I'd get a 3* in Monrovia-Duarte, stuck to $56, rejected! I'm running out of time, need the rooms for tomorrow night so needed another strategy....Final Bid: Added the Pasadena zone assuming my low bids wouldn't garner a hotel in that region anyway, and upped the star level to 4*, keeping in mind that there are no 4* options in any of the other zones I'd selected, so my chances of getting a 3* are looking good. I went back and looked at recent bids and thought I needed to increase my price but I didn't want to pay the $70+ that I'm seeing for recent wins here. I thought about $60 but didn't think adding another $4 (to my last $56 bid) would get me a hotel...so went with $63 and got the Doubletree in Monrovia (which is the area I originally wanted).
