lidora Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Hi,Looking for a 4* (or 5) hotel for my wife and her friend.they need 6 nights 12th April - 18th.It should be CLEAN :-) (last time they stayed in the Hudson and it was small but fine). Not sure about the prices - I believe up to 140$/night will be fine (maybe I'm not realistic?)Looking for a strategy - their preffered areas are (open to hearing recommendations as well - they are mostly shopping...):1. Chelsea or Soho-Tribeca2. TSa strategy will help! Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 For the average user at the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB all typically work well as all the 'known' 4* hotels are generally considered centrally located and can be a good launching pad each day to get where they want to go.Given this is a shopping trip you may consider dropping ESB (as it's a bit more residential than boutique) and/or MTE (more business then Boutique)... although i still wouldn't consider either a bad choice and if budget is an issue i'd have no problems including these zones with the understanding it will be a subway ride away to get to the Boutique-y type stores (and MTE might actually be convenient if looking to shop on Fifth Ave). As well, since they're shopping, Chelsea-MSG and/or Soho can also be added to the mix. This is the season where rates begin to climb higher, and $140 for a 4* hotel may not be that easy, so you may want to consider all zones that are acceptable if price is a concern and you're trying to get the best deal.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lidora Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Hi,Their preference is as follows:1. Chelsea or Soho-Tribeca2. TS or MSG3. MTE or MTWWould appreciate a bidding strategy for that - 6 nights mid-April.Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Their preference is as follows:1. Chelsea or Soho-Tribeca2. TS or MSG3. MTE or MTWAre they willing to pay more to stay in choices #1 vs. choices #2 vs. choices #3?Do they want to bid up to their maximum in the Chelsea and Soho zones, before adding TS and MSG and bidding up to their maximum, before adding MTE and MTW and trying up to their maximum... OR does price prevail and the goal is the least expensive 4* or better in any of these six zones? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lidora Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Choices #1 & #2 are the same - so can bid up to their maximum on those. In these - the goal is the least expensive 4* or better hotel (since anyway you can't choose...). If they will not be able to get one in those - can expand and add #3 to the mix and start again lower I guess? If there's a 4* hotel to avoid or something like that please let me know but I thought all are ok (they are spending the while day out anyway ;-))Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 So to confirm:Start with the least expensive 4* hotel in either the Chelsea, Soho-Tribeca, TS, or MSG zones up to your maximum bid... if that is rejected then include MTE and MTW in the mix?If this is correct i would bid as follows:When bidding 4* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Chelsea and Soho and TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MSG...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and Soho and TS and MSG...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and Soho and TS and MSG and MTE and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. lidora Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 Thanks for the strategy, so indeed just to confirm re-bidding zones before I go ahead (was 3 years ago when I last did that...):for 4* up this is what I found:1. Coney Island2. Long Island City3. Lower East Side4. Morning Side Heights - Harlem5. Queensborough beach6. Upper East SideThanks!
thereuare Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct, but always double check again just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed between now and then. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lidora Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Well, already went up to 188$ and no luck in all 6 areas, so I guess will have to add 3.5* (or do you think I'm close???)Any idea how low should I start bidding now? this is still time consuming :-)Any of the 3.5* hotels that we need to stay away from? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 I think you're likely not that far off from a 4* win ($195-210) - if you want to continue higher, I'd try moving higher by $3's. At the 3.5* level, there are a couple of properties in MTE that are rather far E in MTE towards the border of the zone. In CPS, the 3.5* Hudson has extremely small rooms.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lidora Posted January 24, 2013 Author Report Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks. How low should I start bidding for 3.5* though?
thereuare Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 I'm guessing that the 'right' price for a 4* hotel above is correct, ~$200 the range.HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel currently offered for your dates in the MTE zone for $123/nite with:Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower My guess is that this may be the Hilton Manhattan East. This hotel is a little east of ideal, but at ~$125/nite it's certainly do-able and would seem to be a a very good deal for this time of year (even if some other property this would be a good rate for a 3.5* hotel for this time of year)Do you want to bid higher on PRICELINE for a 4*, bid on a 3.5* property on PRICELINE with a $125 maximum bid, or go with the HOTWIRE offer above?Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. lidora Posted January 24, 2013 Author Report Posted January 24, 2013 This hotel sounds great but I can't find this deal in HOTWIRE... where exactly?
thereuare Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Unfortunately it's not currently showing, although i saw it on multiple searches today for multiple dates. As well, there is no telling if it will come back, was a price mistake, or if it will ever be seen again... do you want to give it a day or two to see if it comes back and then make a decision from there? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lidora Posted January 25, 2013 Author Report Posted January 25, 2013 Thank you guys for the advise! took it in 202$ finally, after a 200$ unsuccessful bid so that's pretty close to the lower price possible for all of those 6 areas for those dates - soho, chelsie, MTW, MTE, MSG & TS
AaronJB Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Nice win for the early Spring, and hope you are pleased with the result.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
