mogulman1 Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 I've used hotwire for a longtime, but this was my first time doing Priceline.Started bidding at $90 for 4* for 3/30-4/3. Added a neighborhood and increased to 95. Then added areas with no 4*. Got the Renaissance for $130/night.I thought that this was an amazing deal. Then I checked Marriott's web-site. They have a prepaid rate for this property for $135/night. So I saved $5/nite. Not exactly feeling that great about it now, especially the amount of time I invested. This rate wasn't on some of the other hotel web-sites.The weird thing is the Marriott site has the total at estimated at $1000 with taxes. My total from Priceline was $400 less than that. Are taxes higher if you book directly with a hotel? That would make me feel better if I save that.
thereuare Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your win with the board. The $135 rate you're seeing at the hotel website is only for the first nite, there is a rate change during your stay where the rate goes up to $299 after the first nite, which just re-enforces what a great deal you received. woaituangou Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 Hello, I see some reviews about this hotel, which said the surrounding area is not safe, is it true? Since I will bid 4 star level hotel in the Convention Center, so I am concerning this issue. Thanks! :P
thereuare Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 I don't know the area surrounding this hotel but since you can't choose your particular hotel or location within the zone, the only way to avoid this property would be to avoid the zone entirely... which leaves the question which zone(s) would you bid? (as just like any city there are pockets of bad neighborhoods throughout). Again, i don't know this area specifically but you can have an area with a lot of homeless and somebody who is from a rural area and not used to seeing this can feel 'unsafe', where somebody who lives in a large city and sees homelessness every day might say the same area is 'perfectly fine'. As with any city you should be aware of your surroundings wherever you go.If you'd like help with your own stay please start a NEW TOPIC.If you are looking for a specific location you may want to have a look at our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, which also includes walkscore so you can see what bars, restaurants, shopping, nightlife is nearby your hotel. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dm91497 Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 I stayed six nights at this hotel in 2010. It was a great location and I never felt in danger. It is within walking distance of White House, museums and metro. You will be very pleased.
