I would like to get a 4* hotel in Fin District/Embarcadero for $130-160. Is that a reasonable expectation?

I tried bidding today incl. all zones that don't have a 4* hotel one at a time, starting at $120 and went all the way upto $180 (which is really out of my desired range, but if I have to....). But none of the bids were successful. What am I doing wrong? Is it too close to the dates?

There seem to be people snagging the Hilton for much less. Help....!

Thank you.... I read my welcome message, and I will definitely use the PRICELINE links from here to make my purchase.

Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions on improving my bid strategy.

One thing I forgot to say was that I was looking for rooms for 1 adult. Maybe I should look for 2 adults?

Rates are currently high in this zone for this complete stay... searching for 2 people rather than 1 person may change the offers a bit, but i'm doubtful it will help you much in terms of pricing.

Are any other nearby zones such as USE or USW acceptable? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Thank you thereuare.

I'm okay with Union Sq W or Union Sq E or even Soma/ Moscone areas. The only reason I excluded those is because the zones seem to have some bad hotels (bad reviews at Trip Advisor) rated at 4 stars (like Westin St Francis). Do you know whether any of these other zones that have only good hotels...?

I can also split my stay. I actually have an offer from a friend to crash on her couch between 1/31-2/04, so I can indeed split the stay.

I think you can have some success if you're willing to include the USE and USW zones.

If you're concerned about some of the properties in the area you can use HOTWIRE and choose something that has a higher user satisfaction percentage and/or a high Tripadvisor rating. While this doesn't guarantee a hotel that you'll love, it does help reduce the chances of landing a 'dog' hotel in the zone.

HOTWIRE has what i'm currently guessing to be the Hotel Adagio for $154/nite for your complete stay... would this work for your needs?

Thank you but Hotel Adagio is what I would consider a 3 star (if not 2) hotel. Reading the negative reviews on trip advisor says a lot about some of these places. Of course, not your fault, I sincerely appreciate your effort to help. Must be bad timing on my part, maybe there's a convention or something going on. I will keep checking for the next week or so, if I can't find anything, there's always Airbnb.
