kunzlerfam Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 I'm wanting to book a hotel near Disneyland for 6/3/2013 until 6/7/2013 and see there are 2 options on Priceline--Disneyland North or Disneyland South. It looks like most of the forums show wins in Disneyland South. I'm thinking 3 star in the range of $50-60. What would be my best options? Do most of the South hotels have shuttles to the park? Also, is it too early to book? Would it be better to wait until closer to our dates?
kunzlerfam Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 So I've tried the following for 6/3/2013-6/7/20133 1/2* at 55 for Disneyland-Anaheim North57 with Disneyland-Anaheim South added.58 with rebid zone added60 with rebid zone added62 with rebid zone added63 with rebid zone added64 with rebid zone added65 with rebid zone addedObviously I have plenty of time to keep trying. I'd like to stay around $65 or less and am willing to go 3*.
thereuare Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific and current rates for these dates do look a bit higher then usual, but nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay. Using MAPS and HOTELS.com are you able to find any acceptable 3*/3.5* hotels around the $65 level that are fully refundable? If so, you can book one of those as a back-up and continue to try PRICELINE / HOTWIRE in the weeks ahead in hopes of a better deal. This protects you at current rates if prices rise from here, but also gives you the ability to cancel your back-up reservation if you're able to win a better deal between now and then.Note that at MAPS and HOTELS.com you can search by landmark (or address) so you could limit your search to 1 mile from Disneyland which should put you within close proximity to the park.Let us know what you find in terms of a back-up reservation and/or how you'd like to move forward and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kunzlerfam Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 Thanks! MAPS and HOTELS.com is a great website.I'm not finding anything in the $65 range--all are over $100/night unless I go 1/2*.Our dates are somewhat flexible--anytime after May 24th. How do I tell if the rates are higher than usual for a given date set?
thereuare Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Try using various date combination at MAPS and HOTELS.com OR at HOTWIRE or at PRICELINE EXPRESS... look for a set of dates where the rates drop or are lower relative to the other nites. This would be indicative of a lower demand timeframe and more like to have a lower priced bid accepted. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if/how we can be of further help along the way. kunzlerfam Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 Thanks for the help. After looking at reviews and amenities of the hotels list that others have reported, I think 3* Disney North is going to be more in line with what we're looking for.Of course the new dates (based on some summer daycare issues) look like 6/4-6/8 2013. I'm sure the Friday stay will throw a wrench in things. So how would I go for rebids in this scenario? Pretty much all the other zones have 3* listings...
thereuare Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 When bidding 3* you have ONE re-bid zone in this area. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Are you able to identify your one re-bid zone? Are your dates firm and are you ready to commit to a non-refundable purchase? What will be your maximum bid at the 3* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kunzlerfam Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 It looks like San Clemente is the only zone without a 3* so that would be my one rebid zone. This set of dates is firm. I don't want to go over Memorial Day weekend and the rates go up the following week. I still want to stay under $65 and am starting bids at $45 so I have a wider range to play with. Does that seem reasonable? The "median price" showing on the NYOP page is $122 and I have a backup reservation made at the Desert Palms for average $92 on a AAA rate.
thereuare Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Your gameplan seems reasonable, but will take a bit of time if you're only bidding the Disneyland North zone and only have one re-bid zones. If you're limiting yourself to the North zone and avoiding the South zone because you don't like some of the 3* options there, i'd also suggest taking a look at HOTWIRE where there is a 3* offered in the South zone for $75 which includes Free Breakfast and i suspect is the well reviewed Ayres Inn Orange... but not sure how this compares to your current back-up of the Desert Palms. This is the amenity list of the 3* that i believe is the Ayres:Free Parking Complimentary Breakfast Free Internet Fitness Pool Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower If you want to bid on PRICELINE you have your ONE re-bid zone correct, but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed.Select 3* Disneyland North...Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50If rejected wait 24 hours after your last bid use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Disneyland North...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60If rejected wait 24 hours after your last bid use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Disneyland North...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. kunzlerfam Posted January 22, 2013 Author Report Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks Thereuare! You've are very helpful. The Ayres Inn Orange is appealing but we prefer walking distance vs a shuttle. I will keep it in mind though.Hoping for Anabella, Hotel Menage, Ramada Plaza via PRICELINE but Holiday Inn on Walnut would be ok too. At least those are what I see in the reported hotels list for 3* though no recent threads mentioning these names.Do most Priceline bids go for 50% off other listed prices?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Do most Priceline bids go for 50% off other listed prices? Not necessarily... it all depends upon supply and demand for any given dates, as well as how much hotel competition there is in the area. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. kunzlerfam Posted March 8, 2013 Author Report Posted March 8, 2013 We actually moved the trip up a week and are getting free use of a timeshare. Thanks for the help and I'm now off to check the Las Vegas board.
