BaseballNut Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 Thank you!Looking for Feb. 10-12, a 3.5 or 4 star, for $100-$125 tops. First area choice is probably MTE. We like to be near Grand Central (or last time we stayed by Penn Station and the area was also convenient, but not sure what bidding district that is). Also like Times Square, and Central Park. The usual touristy areas, I suppose! Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Did you want to bid only for a MTE property first up to your limit and then consider other zones if that is rejected... or is your goal the least expensive hotel at the star rating you designate in any of your acceptable zones? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
BaseballNut Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 We'd like the least expensive 3.5 star...I think. And we'd like the cheapest in any of those areas. Trying to get the most bang for our buck; where isn't the top priority as all those locations are pretty central. Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 And we'd like the cheapest in any of those areas.Exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, are you willing to accept? At the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB typically work out well for the average user. (although with the recent upgrade of the Hilton you should also see the location fo this property to determine if it's close enough to Grand Central... i'd guess just under 10 minute walk to the subway.HOWEVER, note that at the 3.5* level the following apply:CPS - has the Hudson hotel which is well located but has notoriously small roomsMTE - some of the known 3.5* properties can get a bit far each and up to a 15 minute walk to the subwayPlease confirm which zone(s) and star rating you'd like to try for first and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BaseballNut Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 At the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB typically work out well for the average user.I apologize for not being clear at all. These areas would be perfect -- and I guess we'll aim for the 4* level for our 2/10-2/12 trip.Thank you so much for your tips on the hotels at the 3.5 star level, as I would rather not have a notoriously small room or longer walk to the subway in the winter. We've been there several times and I usually agonize over days of analyzing posts here before booking, so I really do appreciate your help and insight.
thereuare Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 When bidding 4* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. However, only one room left at this price so let's see how the bidding goes and if this HOTWIRE offer is still available if/when needed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions. BaseballNut Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 Thank you for your help! I did as you suggested and was rejected on all PRICELINE bids. So I went with the HOTWIRE bid of $120 for a 4* in ESB area -- and it was indeed the St. Giles The Court. I am disappointed Priceline rejected everything, since that's half the fun, but I am very pleased with what I got. Thanks again!
BaseballNut Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 Thank you -- I am very pleased with this win, as I've never stayed here and the location is perfect.
AaronJB Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Congrats on your success.Very nice win for this former W property! Glad the hotel will work well for your travel plans.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
