Beefeater Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 Hi, I'm bidding on a 3.5* in Buffalo. I only want a hotel in my original zone. When I tried the rebidding strategy of adding zones without 3.5* hotels (there are plenty in buffalo) the ammenities changed after the 3rd bid and the third zone was added. It went from guaranteeing a full slate of ammenities plus 8/10 customer to only the customer score guarantee. Does this mean it's more likely there is a hotel in this new zone and I'm risking getting it? Seems strange they wouldn't guarantee any ammenities at a 3.5*. I know I'm really low-balliIng it at the 40 dollar range, but are they going to put me in a janitor closet? :P

Beefeater Posted January 12, 2013 Author Report Posted January 12, 2013 I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links!I started with downtown -> West Senace -> South Buffalo -> then the trouble happened when I used Cheektowaga. It also happens if I go with buffalo airport which doesn't look like it has a 3.5*.
thereuare Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 I think it's just the way it was coded, as we have seen similar situations where clicking a re-bid zone changes the 'Best Deal' designation, when it should have no effect.I just looked at NYC selecting 4* and the MSG zone... then adding Coney Island (highest star rating 2*) and it had an effect on the guaranteed amenities at the 4* level when it shouldn't have. You need to feel comfortable with whatever bidding strategy you employ, but personally i'd still feel comfortable with the SEVEN re-bid zones you have when bidding the 3.5* level in Buffalo. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Romelle Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 I've seen that "suggested retail price" change when adding free rebid zones that are not offering the particular star level. The first couple of times it made me sufficiently nervous I went back and double-checked my rebid zones. Now I just ignore it. I agree the changing guaranteed amenities are probably from some computer coding oddity, and maybe even the same one causing the $$ change.Romelle
Beefeater Posted January 16, 2013 Author Report Posted January 16, 2013 Update:Thanks for the feedback. My highest bid of $125 failed. I opted to go with a lower quality hotel with a higher quality room choice by using Priceline express. I used the PRICELINE link above and got a 3* executive king for $129 plus 10% off using the code PLAYOFFS.
