Hi,

I'm a first-time Priceline user. Just tried unsuccessfully yesterday to bid for 3* hotel in Deerfield, Chicago Northshore. The previous successful bids fr. other users were either the Hyatt or Marriott Suites, in the range $35-$52.

The rack rate for Sept 15-20 is:

Marriott Suites: $89, changed to $209 on Sept 19.

Hyatt is well above $100.

I started @ $38, Deerfield

2nd try: $42, added Libertyville.

3rd try: $45, added Gurnee.

None was accepeted.

Maybe because there is some event going on on the week started on Sept 19 so the hotel rate would be highre than normal? Im guessing myself. What should I do next? Increase the bid to $50 and start all over? Not sure about all the tricks of this bidding game.

TIA,

K.

I don't think there's anything in particular going on; maybe the rate are just higher on the 19th because the area is so business oriented - the Marriott Suites even sits right in the middle of an office park and may get a lot of business travelers earlier in the week. Regardless, I ran your dates on a Hotwire search for Northbrook (which would include Deerfield) and they do have a 3* suite hotel with amenities of restaurant/pool/fitness center/laundry for $54. I don't see any Northbrook properties on the pinned Hotwire list, but it seems like this might be a match for the Marriott Suites, or possibly the Wyndham Suites in Glenview. If you want to continue with Priceline, you might want to split your bid and go for the 1st four nights only, then I believe I've read somewhere that sometimes you can try to add a night? I'm sure thereuare will recommend a suitable strategy to you, but I hope my comments are helpful as well.

Thank you for your help!

What is the probability to get different hotels w/ splitting the bid? We have a toddler; moving around to different holtel is pretty hasseling. I don't mind to increase the bid up to match Hotwire rate. Just want to make sure we are in the same area; either the Hyatt or the Marriot Suites.

I checked Hotwire earlier yesterday. Yes, it was $53/night. It iwas $59 for Sept 19. I was thinking of trying it 1 night to see which hotel it was. Now there is no 3 * suites; the available rate is $140 for 3 1/2 *!!!

W/ PL, it seems to fall into either hotel we like; w/ Hotwire we may end up to some undersired area.

Hi again,

The hotel had "no suites" sign, and 4 of the amenities total, that is all I remember. Just shortly 10-15' after that ; I got on Hotwire 3* @$55/night w/ the suites, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service). It is Wyndahm in Glenview as lindabobhat mentioned, not the Marriot Suites as we hoped for. It does not sound as good as the Marriot Suites. It is further west for palces we will be vistiting daliy on Northbrook & Skokie. The travel time may be longer since it is local access than Deerfiled ( by 294 & 94). However, we saved ~$250 compared w/ their reg. rate.

Well, we took the chance w/ Hotwire. Wyndham Glenview Suites has mixed review on trip advisor. 4/5 rating on Expedia. I'll give my review when I come back.

Many thanks for your tips! Maybe, I'll be more patient next time.

Kayla,

We've stayed at that particular hotel on several occasions when it was a Radisson and later the Doubletree Suites. The suites are very generously sized. I actually like these suites better than the Marriott Suites in Deerfield where we stayed just a few weeks ago. They're a lot roomier. See if you can get a renovated suite when you check in - Wyndham took over the property in the last 6 months or so and they are in the midst of an overhaul. In my opinion, the only real advantage the Marriott has over the Wyndham is a bigger bathroom with separate tub & shower. (FYI - the Marriott Suites are in dire need of renovation as well.) Seems to me you are located somewhere in between Skokie and Northbrook, so it might not be so bad for you. There are also a lot more restaurants in the area by the Wyndham (try Pita Inn in Glenview for amazing and inexpensive Middle Eastern food!) Hope you enjoy your stay!

Thank you for sharing your results and adding this new hotel to our HOTWIRE HOTEL LIST for this area.

So the hotel you won did have a Suite icon, correct? (you can check this by going to Hotwire and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page)

Thanks, and enjoy your stay.

Linda,

Thanks for your kindness; it is a relief to know you enjoyed your stay there. The review on tripadvisor.com is a yr old and mixed. Location-wise it is not too bad after all; I mapquest hotel location and places we will be travel to (Northbrook & Skokie); the travel time seems to be about the same. Just hope traffic is not too bad. I'm not familiar w/ the area at all. :)

Thanks for the restaurant info; we'll check it out for the first night dinner. Middle Eastern food is one of my favorites! The rest of the time, we'll be dining either in Skokie and Northbrook.

I wished it was still under Doubletree so I may get upgrade & late check out w/ my Platinium Hilton Honor memebership. ;) Since when these hotels stop honoring member benefits for PL & HW booking?

thereuare:

Correct, the hotel I booked on Hotwire is 3* and has "suites" sign.

The "3 1/2 *" hotel w/ same ammenities, has no "suites" sign and is $140 earlier!. It sounds like Deerfield Hyatt. I like the Hyatt ( efficient room configuration & very comfy bed) except the room is small and there is no microwave (for the toddler's food).
