Intropy Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 I am looking to find a hotel on Maui for the seven nights 1-26-2013 to 2-2-2013. The nicer the hotel the better, but anything clean will suffice. Since the lowest Priceline has is two stars, I think that means anything it offers is fine. I want to stay somewhere within walking distance of the beach and prefer something on one of the Western coasts. From the Priceline zone maps I think anything other than Kahului would fit, and I would consider Kahului if the price achievable were significantly ($50 or so per night) lower. I am willing to split the trip over multiple hotels. From these criteria, which seem to fit just about every single hotel Priceline has on the island, I want to find the best price I can. A nicer hotel is worth a bit more money to me, but I'm more trying to minimize expense. I would like to stay under $150 a night, and hope to stay under $100 a night. There will be two adults and a one-year-old, and I will have a rental car with me.

Intropy Posted January 6, 2013 Author Report Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks. I posted my followup. I'm afraid it's not too interesting data-wise since I wound up staying in New York at a private residence that night. I will use your links for purchases.
thereuare Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 I'm afraid it's not too interesting data-wise...But it helps keep the board better organized when each thread has a 'conclusion' ;)For Maui, we'll need a bit more information as to your preference(s)...What star rating and zones do you want to try first and up to what maximum bid price before you consider lowering your star rating and/or including alternate zones (such as Kahului)? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Intropy Posted January 6, 2013 Author Report Posted January 6, 2013 I'd say an extra star is worth $15 a night to me. Staying somewhere other than Kahului is worth $30 a night to me. I'm pretty sure I can get a two star in Kahului for $100. I'd also put a premium of $50 for being Ka'anapali/Lahaina for the two night 1/30-2/1 because I have plans in that area those days. So I guess this would be a good rundown.1/30-2/1:4 star Lahaina/Ka'anapali to $2003 star Lahaina/Ka'anapali to $1852 star Lahaina/Ka'anapali to $1704 star / resort non-Kahului to $1603 star non-Kahului to $1452 star non-Kahului to $130Anything up to $100Other nights:4 star / resort non-Kahului to $1603 star non-Kahului to $1452 star non-Kahului to $130Anything up to $100

Intropy Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Posted January 19, 2013 For the nights 1-26 through 1-30:Was unable to get 4* anywhere non-Kahului at $145 which was my highest bidWas unable to get 3* anywhere non-Kahului at $130 which was my highest bidA bid of 2* anywhere but Kahului was rejected at $110.A bid of 2* anywhere but Kahului was accepted at $115, resulting in the Aston Maui Lu.For the nights 1-30 through 2-1 I purchased through a travel agency at an employer negotiated rate. For the night 2-1 I bid anywhere (including Kahului this time) up to $90 and was rejected, so I booked an airbnb option.
