amypet Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Hello, I'm looking for a five star hotel in Florence Italy from for my husband & I for May 14-17. When I look on Hotwire, it shows 2 hotels. One is in Florence East - Bagno a Ripoli area hotel for $169. per night ($469 at other sites)The other is in Old Town area - Duomo - Ponte Vecchio area hotel. The price on this is $283 - also $469 on other sites.Ive used Hotwire a lot & Priceline occasionally, but never for International travel. I have no idea about either of these areas, and cant seem to find enough info to let me know which hotel choice or area might be best.

Romelle Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 There haven't been any Florence East 5*s reported. The only Florence Old Town 5* reported isn't a good match for the amenities of your property. Possibly one of the moderators has additional insight, but the amenity match is the best tool for ID'ing. If you proceed, and post what you received, future bidders will be very appreciative!I don't know Florence East particularly, but the Old Town one would be a wonderful location for sure. The Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio are two of the major tourist stops. And there are some great street markets in the area.Florence East looks to be a little remote (7km SE) - hillsides, greenery. Bagno a Ripoli was first settled by the Etruscans. Might be quieter. You probably will want to research some more before you go with this one. Romelle

amypet Posted January 5, 2013 Author Report Posted January 5, 2013 Romelle,Thank you for that input. We definitely want to be closer to the action/attractions & not out in the burbs.I wonder what the Old Town hotel is..?
Romelle Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 On the retail side of HOTWIRE there are some 13 5* hotels. This Old Town one on the opaque side could be one of those, or it could be a completely different one. Without prior reporting of amenities by some other member there really isn't any way to even do an educated guess.Sometimes one just has to take a chance. I did last year in Istanbul, and was very happy with what I got. Right next to the Blue Mosque. Nice place too. But I had no idea what I might receive. Places like Las Vegas and New York and Chicago are so well reported it usually is possible to sleuth things out. Even London has enough volume of reports to do the job, but many international places don't. Florence is one of them. If you've been clear to the bottom of this site, you may have noticed there are over 115,000 members. And the count keeps going up. Maybe in a few years there will be enough reporting for places like Florence. Sorry there isn't now. Romelle
thereuare Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 For the Florence East - Bagno a Ripoli property my guess would be the Villa Olmi Resort... while for the Old Town property my guess would be the Hotel Regency. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
amypet Posted January 5, 2013 Author Report Posted January 5, 2013 Awesome. If we were interested in the Regency property, & were to place a bid on PRICELINE, do you have any suggestions on what might be an acceptable bid amount?I will of course make sure to go through your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links if we do :)
amypet Posted January 5, 2013 Author Report Posted January 5, 2013 Oh wait, not thinking & forgot I cant name the property on PRICELINE. Duh. Ok, well, I guess my question is ; if we wanted to use PRICELINE & were interested in the area the Regency is in, what would be a good bid amount for a 5 star?
thereuare Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 What would be your maximum bid for a 5* hotel in PRICELINE's Central zone? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. amypet Posted January 7, 2013 Author Report Posted January 7, 2013 Regarding the HOTWIRE quote, if it is the Regency, I see that compared with hotels.com, we save $29/night with the Hotwire rate. For PRICELINE, depending on the Hotel, I guess we'd do $300 a night. Any ideas on what hotel I might get through Priceline? Is there anyway to know this?
thereuare Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 With PRICELINE there is no way to guess, or target, a specific hotel in the zone... you can receive any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you bid.Are you not that interested in the HOTWIRE offer since you're willing to bid higher then this on PRICELINE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Romelle Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 As thereuare said, there isn't any way of knowing with Priceline bidding. You can get a general idea of possibilities if you look on the retail side of PRICELINE using your dates. But there can be hotels one gets via bidding that are not offered on the retail side, and vice versa. Romelle
