openhorizons Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Hello,I am looking for stay on the above dates, i found resorts bidding (average 251) and hotels (4 and 3 stars @ 300s!).What is the best strategy to get low price?thx
thereuare Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 So we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher then you're willing to pay, what is your maximum bid for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. openhorizons Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 from my search, i found that el san juan resort is available at these dates, so i am guessing it is the one that is being offered in Priceline. i wonder if i can get it for a lower price range in the lower 100s ?
Romelle Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 As you are planning your budget, I hope you know those hotels also charge a "resort fee" at the desk. Romelle
thereuare Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 While the El San Juan may be available for your dates, there are likely many other hotels with availability as well, so i wouldn't necessarily rely on receiving the El San Juan simply because that is the one you are hoping for.As well, with hotel direct rates for this property starting at $269+ per nite, i don't think $100 is a realistic bid based upon current prices... is $100 your maximum bid that you would like us to use? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. openhorizons Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 I am open for other places, preferably max 120 to140$ as there will be extra fees.appreciate your recommendations.
Romelle Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 I'm assuming you are planning a 6 night stay with a departure 1/23? Rates in San Juan can vary a lot, with cruise ship arrivals and departures being one of the major causes. For your dates, looking at Hotwire, the nights of 17, 18, and 21, 22 are at a lower level. But there was no availability for 19, and 20 was a whole lot higher. This pattern does suggest splitting your bid if you are willing to consider changing hotels?? You'd bid the first two nights, the middle two, and the last two separately. By all means try bidding the full 6 nights first, but if you aren't successful up to your budget max you should consider splitting your stay. Also, if you aren't successful up to your max at the 4* level, would you consider a slightly lower star level?Romelle
thereuare Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 While i think $140 may be tough for a Resort class property for this complete stay, you can try as follows and if rejected we'll take it from there. When bidding Resort in the San Juan region you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select Resort San Juan...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. openhorizons Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 Thanks Romelle and thereuare. My travel dates are 17 to 23/1. I am guessing it's almost fully booked because of a major conference in san juan, which i am attending. The reason of choosing 4* or resort, because they all considered conference hotel and there is shuttle to different conference venues in san juan. So it's more convenient to stay in these hotels. although i don't mind 3.5* or less, i wouldn't be sure where they are located and how far from the conference.Regarding Re-bidding (thx for this idea!), i just tried it too till 140 and didn't work.any ideas? Thanks
thereuare Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 So what is your gameplan/strategy going forward? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Any rooms left at the conference hotels/rates?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Regarding Re-bidding (thx for this idea!), i just tried it too till 140 and didn't work. Was your bidding up to $140 for Resort or 4* or both?Romelle
openhorizons Posted January 3, 2013 Author Report Posted January 3, 2013 all rooms seems to be full!except el san juan, which is more than 200!changing hotels will be difficult, especially with busy schedule.any other possible strategy?my bidding was for both 4* and resort.
Romelle Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 You've got two weeks until you need the room. It might be a good idea to make a cancelable back-up reservation, and then you can keep seeking a better deal until the point you would have to cancel. Do read the fine print of the cancelation policy though. If splitting your bid isn't an option, you can just keep trying the 4*s until the end.Or you can try the 3 1/2*s and 3*s. I've stayed in the Old San Juan Sheraton (a 3 1/2*) and found it very centrally located (and quite nice). It might just be a short walk to one of the 4* pick-up points for your conference. I can't speak for the other 3 1/2*s you might win, but you could see them on a map using Maps and Hotels up under the Tools Menu. I was going to suggest HOTWIRE, but I just checked and it has no San Juan offerings for your dates. Surprising. Then I looked at PRICELINE for one of their PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, and got the same result. Regarding very last minute bidding, in some cities it is possible to bid up until 11 PM of the very day you want to stay. And also, some hotels block rooms for large conferences and then can release them at the last minute if they don't have as many conference reservations as expected. Very hard to predict though. Hence making the cancelable back-up reservation. Romelle
