Hi!

I'm looking for a 4* hotel (and I think 3,5 would be OK also) in NYC for 2/24/13 - 3/2/13. We are four people and 2 large beds should be enough - so one room. Looked at the area map also and I think the following should be OK:

2 Central Park South

3 Chelsea Area

6 Empire State Building Area

7 Hell's Kitchen

10 Madison Square Garden

11 Midtown East

12 Midtown West

16 Times Square - Theatre District

17 Upper East Side

18 Upper West Side

Wouldn't want to go over $125/night. So a bit of bidding help and suggestions would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

We are four people and 2 large beds should be enough - so one room.

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Using PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC is especially risky since rooms are typically much smaller then in other parts of the country so most hotels have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed, and rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade (and cost more).

Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)

If you search HOTWIRE using the search box at the top left of this page (or our BiddingHelper.com) and include 4adults in your search, does anything appear within your desired zones, star level, and budget?

A $129 3,5* Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area hotel seems to be OK... Is this the best I can get? :)

If you define 'best' as the highest rated hotel closest to your budget, then it appears that currently this Downtown property is the best offered.

For this Downtown property are the amenities: Fitness, Restaurant, Business? If so, i looked at this property the other day for a user and my best guess was the Wyndham Garden Chinatown.

As one other option, i'll add that what appears to be the Holiday Inn 57th St. is offered for $111/nite, should that be of any interest (Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower).

These were the amenities yes. The Holiday Inn option is also OK and I think we're going to take just that.

But since I'm already here and asking and you seem to know everything about the hotel business, I'll ask one more thing. Would it be possible to get a hotel somewhere in my pricerange that's a bit taller? :) Just to get a view from a room that's maybe on the 50th floor...

I know that no one can guarantee a high floor room in a taller building, but I would at least have a chance to get it... :)

The limiting factor seems to be your budget... the downtown property you inquired about, and the MTC property above, are each the least expensive properties at 3* or above. Other offers may be guessed/identified as being hotels that are highrises... but they also cost more.

Is your budget flexible and/or is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Some options around a $170 budget (you can research how tall they each are)...

Roosevelt $114/nite

Millennium Broadway $181/nite (52 stories)

Belvedere $173/nite

Flatiron Hotel Toshi $176/nite

St Giles the Court $171

Millennium UN $175/nite (views from this hotel are usually pretty good but the location is somewhat far east and about a 15 minute walk to the subway)

Any of these of interest?

Lastly, i'll add that if you could up your budget a little further you could probably get 4* hotel rooms for $100/nite each, and while this would obviously cost a bit more, it will also likely be more comfortable and gives an extra shower/bathroom which should make getting ready to go out each morning/nite a bit quicker.

Decided to take the cheaper offer. Choosing between a 3* and $96 midtown central area hotel (Free Internet, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), High-Speed Internet Access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf,

Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower) and a 4* $112 midtown east area hotel (Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Bathroom has a roll-in shower)

But there's a drop-down menu during payment that doesn't let me choose my country. Could I just put down a random address as my billing address?

Try choosing 'United States' as the country, but make the rest of your address as close to the billing address as possible.

For State use 'CA' (California) and for zip use '99999' and see if that works.

My guess for the MTE property is the Roosevelt and for the MTC property it would be the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th St.

Congratulations on your success!

A very nice deal for NYC, especially considering you need quad occupancy. Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are pleased with the results.

You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
