auburnfan Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 I am trying to find a deal for the 22-24th of March for 4* or 3.5* French Quarter. Is it too early to secure a good rate? Also - I am traveling with 2 kids. Is Priceline a dealbreaker? Help!
thereuare Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 I am trying to find a deal for the 22-24th of March for 4* or 3.5* French Quarter. What do you consider to be a 'good deal'? Your topic title asks 'Why are rates so high'... what rates are you currently seeing and what rates were you expecting to see?PS- also did a little research and it's Fashion Week in New Orleans from 3/20-3/24, and while i'm not sure how big the New Orleans show is (in NYC it's HUGE), i suspect this is going to be a contributing factor to hotel demand for these dates.I am traveling with 2 kids. Is Priceline a dealbreaker? It depends upon your tolerance for risk.PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know your thoughts and the information above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. The Family Ghost Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 I also had a question about rates for the the dates 4/20 - 4/23. This is the week prior to Jazz Fest I believe .. not sure why the rates seem elevated. I haven't formally bid yet on Priceline, but noticed that the best deal on Hotwire was for a 4* in French Quarter/Canal St. area for $118 per night. On Priceline it is listing the median retail price between $199-$259 for a 3-4 star hotel. Do you anticipate there will be better deals if I wait it out a while, or should I consider jumping on that $118 price at Hotwire? I see a lot of messages on here about people getting rooms in the $60-$70 range via Priceline, and was hoping I might be able to get similar pricing for my dates. Thanks !
