Hi guys,

We are visiting the USA in June for our honeymoon, 1st stop is NYC! We are looking for a 4* in TS / MTE / MTW / CPS. I've been reading this site for a while and have been using the bidding strategy posted for other users (always using the betterbidding links!).

I've been bidding up to $208 per night, which works out at $256 including taxes. No luck so far! The best 4* rate on Hotwire is $288.

Im wondering, am I being unreasonable with my highest bid for NY in June? I don't want to split my stay, is 4 nights to long for a successful Priceline bid? Should I persevere for a while longer or go with Hotwire?

Thanks

Steve

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Spring is high-season in NYC and your dates are all midweek which are usually more expensive than weekend nites in NYC.

I'm currently seeing a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $247/nite with:

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Tennis

Best guess for this property would be the InterContinental Barclay or the Grand Hyatt if this is of any interest... OR you may be able to do a little better then this price when bidding on PRICELINE, but not necessarily targeting either of these properties, you'll need to be able to accept any hotel in the zones that you bid.

If you decide to wait it out, you could book a 'metro room' (this may be a very small room, even by NYC standards) at the Ramada Plaza New Yorker for $253/nite which would be refundable up until a few days before your stay (always double check the cancellation terms during the check-out process). If this property/room are acceptable you could use this as a back-up to protect against prices increasing, but also cancel should you get a better deal on PRICELINE / HOTWIRE closer to your stay. However, i'll add that if i'm correct on the HOTWIRE hotel above, with the Grand Hyatt selling at over $350+ per nite and the InterContinental in the $600's, something in the $225-$250 range would be a pretty decent deal based upon current rates.

Thanks for the promt reply and assistance! We decided to go for the Hotwire option in the end. Got the Grand Hyatt as you correctly guessed, which we are more than happy with!

Thanks again, Steve

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you're pleased with the results and this property will work well for your plans this trip.

You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.

Enjoy your stay.
