luda Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 Hi,Could you please help with any advice on how to bid on the hotel on Priceline. I am trying to book a 4* or a resort from January 8- January15. I really want to be close to the beach. Priceline gives two option: resort and 4* Deluxe... Could you suggest which one is more luxurious? Is it possible to see the full list of 4* hotels and resorts.. so we dont get a hotel taht is far away from the beach?Do you by any chance know what the bidding price for these types of hotels?Thank you in advance!
thereuare Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.I am trying to book a 4* or a resort from January 8- January15.Are you willing to pay more for a Resort vs. a 4* OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay?I really want to be close to the beach. With PRICELINE you can receive a hotel anywhere within the boundaries of the zone(s) you select. You may want to consider HOTWIRE as they will show you amenities beforehand and you can look for the 'Near Beach' designation indicating that the hotel offered is within an easy walk to the beach... or the Beachfront amenity indicating the hotel is located on the beach. You may also (and we can help) take a guess as to the hotel offered based upon the amenities and any other information HOTWIRE shows to be associated with the property offered. However, the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than HOTWIRE, so you need to determine what is more important to you for this stay... the absolute lowest price or ensuring that you're at desired location within the zone.Priceline gives two option: resort and 4* Deluxe...Where on the PRICELINE website do you see this... their star rating system goes (from lowest to highest): 4*, Resort, 5*.Is it possible to see the full list of 4* hotels and resorts...There is no complete list of all the hotels that PRICELINE offers thru their 'Name Your Own Price' (ie- bidding) service, but you can see all hotels reported to the board in our Priceline Hotel List (be sure to read the comments at the top of the list)Let us know any questions you have and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Also, what is your target budget (per nite before taxes/fees) for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Resorts are between 4*s and 5*s. Thus, Resorts can be a little more luxurious than 4*. Think of them as 4 1/2*s.There isn't any way to get a full list of the possible hotels. But, at the very beginning of this Priceline -Hawaii area is a list of hotels members have reported as receiving. It is always possible to get a hotel not yet reported (its happened to me a couple times), but the list will give you a good general idea of the possibilities. As far as the bidding price, there isn't any way to predict specifically what might work. But there are some ways of getting a general idea.On the Tools menu up above is a Calendar of Wins. You can use that to check your dates, and see if there are any reports of successful bids. You also can use Maps and Hotels.com on the Tools menu to see what rates are through other methods of purchase. You mention wanting to be close to the beach. If you bid, you have to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere in the shaded zone map area. Do study that carefully before you bid. If you feel the outer edge of the zone is too far from the beach, you might want to look at Hotwire. Hotwire shows specific amenities, and you can select just for "Beach Front" or similar wording. You don't have a lot of time left. Do post back your budget, so further suggestions will be in line with it. Romelle

Romelle Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 What was the rate for your ID request? And what dates did you use? Also, if you post the amenities without the descriptions (as I've done below) it makes the job of the person doing the ID much easier.1 Bedroom Suite Fully-equipped Kitchen Daily Housekeeping Air-Conditioning Washer and Dryer in Room Pool(s) Restaurant(s) 24-hour Front Desk High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Condo If your budget is firm, your plane tickets are purchased, and your hotel bids are not working, one recourse is a slightly lower star level. Or you could make a cancelable back-up reservation and then keep trying at the 4* and Resort level up until the very last. There is no way of knowing if rates will come down, but that does let you continue without worrying about sleeping on the beach.Romelle
