retfar Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 Hi there. I am going to Las Vegas May 9-15, 2013 and I was hoping you could give me advice on a bidding strategy. I think I would like a max of $150 per night but would like to avoid the Trump. Seems like the only available 5 star hotel on Hotwire for Strip North is the Trump. I've stayed at the Venetian a few months ago and love it there. Would love to get Venetian, Palazzo or Wynn.Any help would be appreciated. Not sure if there's anything scheduled in Vegas during those dates that might make it a more expensive or cheaper time of year to visit.Javi
thereuare Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 To clarify, there are two 'Strip North' zones on PRICELINE:Las Vegas Strip NorthLas Vegas Strip Vicinity NorthThe second one ('Vicinity') is the one that contains the Trump, if you're looking to avoid this property, based upon the current map boundaries you can safely bid 'Las Vegas Strip North' (without the 'Vicinity')When bidding 5* in Las Vegas you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Strip North...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases (and click each of these links before replying).Good luck and let us know how it goes. retfar Posted December 27, 2012 Author Report Posted December 27, 2012 Thank you very, very much for that. I am just waiting for my 2 friends to finalise their flights before I book the hotels, but I'll definitely report back here what we got. Appreciate your help. :)
thereuare Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 I am just waiting for my 2 friends to finalise their flights before I book the hotels...Your comment above raises a second issue... PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know once your plans are finalized and we'll continue the discussion for the hotel part of your trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. retfar Posted December 27, 2012 Author Report Posted December 27, 2012 Hi there. Oh, it's ok. I was staying by myself in a room and my two friends (a couple) are going for a separate room. I arrive a day early, so we had to do separate bookings anyway. But I did use your link for PRICELINE and put in for $115 and got rejected. Added a re-bid zone and bid $120 and it got accepted for the Venetian, which is my favourite in Vegas. So I am beyond happy. Thank you very much for your help. Let me know if I need to post this win anywhere else. I'm still finalising San Francisco and Hawaii hotels but I'll let you know if I do use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for these and probably will ask for help (especially San Francisco).By the way, my flight arrives in Vegas just after midnight on May 10, so I booked the hotel from May 9 so I'd have a room when I land. I guess I should just contact the hotel and let them know I'm arriving about 1am. Javi
thereuare Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Congratulations on your success!A very nice deal for this property for these dates, glad to hear it's your favorite hotel and that you're excited about your return visit.Definitely call the hotel before your arrival and let them know that you'll be arriving after midnite so that they don't think you're a no-show and cancel/re-sell the room. This isn't as much of an issue in Vegas where they are used to arrivals at all hours of the nite, but it's always a good idea to help avoid any unexpected problems.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay... and good luck in Vegas! ;) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
retfar Posted December 28, 2012 Author Report Posted December 28, 2012 And I just booked for my friends and got the Venetian again for $120 for May 10-15. Tried $115 and $118 and was rejected.
thereuare Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Glad to see they received the same deal and more importantly the same hotel so that you will all be together at the same property. Thanks for the additional post and have a great trip!
