Ivan Teixeira Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 I need help identifying a hotel, for a 04/03/13 to 04/08/13 stay:Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet AccessSpa ServicesRecommended by 85%Its priced $175, other sites $358My first guess based on Hotwire Hotels List is W New York, but its regular price is higher than $358 and in the map it seens to be outside Midtown East area, so I don't understando how can it posiibly be it.Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 The "other site" price is not the exact price of the underlying property, but composition of prices for similar properties in the area for these dates. This would likely be the W.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Ivan Teixeira Posted December 26, 2012 Author Report Posted December 26, 2012 Hi,I'm trying to get a good deal for NYC for 5 nights in April 03-08. I'm betting up to $160/night for 4 stars and even tried up to $140 for 3,5 stars without success. Is there anything special going on in the city those days that I am not aware of or it is just too early to bid? Because I see people getting good deals in 4 starts all year long for less than $150/night, why can't I ?I'm willing to pay up to $160 and my preference are 4 stars but if not possible, I would settle for 3,5 starsI would like to stay in any of the following areas:- TIMES SQUARE – THEATER DISTRICT- EMPIRE STATE BUILDING- CENTRAL PARK SOUTH- MIDTOWN EAST- MIDTOWN WESTThanks,IvanPS - By the way, I clicked on HOTWIRE and PRICELINE before this post :) !
thereuare Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Rates are date specific, and rates in the Spring (when you're arriving) are more expensive then for the winter months, which are likely most of the much less expensive wins you're likely currently seeing and referring to above. With the HOTWIRE hotel/rate you previously posted above still available, my guess is that you're likely not very far from a win... perhaps another $10-$15 will be enough for a win for this complete stay.Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels for your dates? Ivan Teixeira Posted December 27, 2012 Author Report Posted December 27, 2012 I couldn't get any 4 star in the desired area for less than $250, so this made me believe that perhaps HOTWIRE $178 offer for a 4 star in MTE (probably W New York) wasn't such a bad deal. Anyways, I was just wondering that if I waited to get closer to my travel date I could get better deals, but if these are such high demand hotel dates it might get even worse as April approaches. What do you think? Thanks for your help and such prompt answer!
thereuare Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 It's impossible to if rates will come down between now and your stay... or continue to move even higher.I will state that $160-$180 area does seem like a fair deal for these dates given all 4* hotels in these zones are selling for $250+ for these dates.I'll also add that weekends are usually cheaper in NYC than weekdays, so if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option you may be able to do better for the weekend nites, but the remaining nites will likely cost you more, and you'll (likely) need to change hotels mid-stay (which is worth it to some but not worth it to others)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or how we can be of further help.
