curveball Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Rats. I'm trying to reserve 8/31 - 9/6 for a trade show. I'd like to fly in closer to the actual start date of the show (like 9/1) but Labor Day weekend has flight availability limited. :)
travellingtom Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I ended up booking for Sept 1-6 at Delta Montreal on Hotwire for $76. I was also almost certain that I could have gotten the same hotel on Priceline for a few dollars less, but didn't want to risk getting the Novotel which did not have a pool.To get to the point. Hotwire is not available for Delta Montreal for the night of Aug 31 so that is likely the problem. If you bid Sept 1-6 you'll likely get the Delta Montreal for your $70 bid. Then you could make a separate higher bid for Aug 31, but no telling what you'll get.
curveball Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Thanks for the great tip, travellingtom. I'm trying that now, though the lowest 3-star I'm seeing now is $109. Did you reserve just the hotel room on Hotwire or did you do a package deal? Also, do you happen to know which one the Delta Montreal is on Hotwire?
thereuare Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 travelingtom's HOTWIRE RESULTS for the Delta... as well you can see the amenties associated with all properties in our HOTWIRE HOTEL LIST for Canada. travellingtom Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 It is the one with 3.5 stars. I noticed on Hotwire that Delta Montreal system goes down every night and doesn't come back on until late morning. It might be the same on Priceline, so I wouldn't bid on Priceline while it is showing as down on Hotwire.
curveball Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Cheers. For some reason I thought their listing had changed on Hotwire but I must have got it mixed up with another hotel. I really like the Delta Montreal and hope I can get it again. Oh btw, I noticed in the other thread the mention of the giftcode. Is it back up or is it gone?
thereuare Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Expired. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
curveball Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Well this really sucks. $76 rejected. And the Delta is going for $118 on Hotwire.
thereuare Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 What is the rate from the Delta website?Saving 35% off of Hotwire's rate may not be realistic for this particular stay. Also note that the amenities that appear for the 3.5* property on your search (at least the one i just did) are not the same as those that were reported above for the Delta Montreal. Amenties could have changed, or this could be the Delta Centreville, or it could be some entirely different suite hotel. travellingtom Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 curveball, it doesn't look like you're not acting fast enough because availability changes constantly. It now looks like Sept 1st is also not available on Hotwire for the Delta Montreal. However, Sept 2-6 is still available for $75.
curveball Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Yeah, I am kind of an idiot. I need to look more closely at the details. I called Delta and they quoted me $249 per night during the time I'm trying to go. You're right, travellingtom, I gotta move faster. If my dates were more flexible, I wouldn't have to wait the 72 hours, but the heavy Labor Day traffic has made a real crunch in flight availability. Ack. I understand that the hotel listings and star rankings for each zone on this site are not 100% guaranteed, but is it possible to say how realiable they probably are?
curveball Posted August 20, 2005 Author Report Posted August 20, 2005 Ok well I got the Delta Montreal for 9/2 - 9/6 at $74 per. I'll post this to the Hotwire forum as soon as I get a chance. Thanks a lot, travellingtom. I wouldn't have been able to get this without your tip. Cheers
curveball Posted August 20, 2005 Author Report Posted August 20, 2005 Booked it through the SavingsBarn.com HOTWIRE link (my fourth trip through savingsbarn in the last two years). Thanks again for the help, travellingtom and Thereuare.

curveball Posted August 20, 2005 Author Report Posted August 20, 2005 The amenities listed for the Delta Montreal were consistent with the listings on the Better Bidding's Hotwire Hotel List: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Spa, Children's Activity, Business CenterSo it looks like Better Bidding's list is current.
