Hi,

I'm new to this and trying to get a good deal for NYC for the 9 nights Feb 02-11. I'm trying to stay under $80/night and minimum rating would be 3 stars. Do you think I have any chance ? Last year I got Hudson Hotel for U$ 80 for almost the same period.

I would like to stay the following areas but I'm flexible and open to suggestions:

- Central Park South

- Chelsea Area

- Empire State Building Area-- Madison Square Garden

- Soho

- Times Square

- Midtown east

- Midtown West

Thanks,

Rafael

When bidding 3* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Hey sorry,

But I've tried to understand and I haven't.

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MSG...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...

What's is this add a re-bid zone ? I need to pick another region that I want to ? Or it means that I can try again just by changing the amount but for the same regions you suggest ?

Thanks

Did you read the thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained?

If so and you're still confused try the following:

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

You got the hang of it but not the full information we need... list all the zones in the area, not just the zones you are interested in bidding on. As well, no need to list all the star ratings available in the zone, only the highest star rating offered.

Please repeat with the highest star rating for each zone that is offered in the New York City region and we'll take it from there.

I've reposted your list here with the Long Island City correction:

CPS: 4

CHELSEA: 4

ESB: 4

MSG: 4

MTE: 4

MTW: 4

SOHO: 4

TSQ: 5

BROOKLYN: 4

CONEY ISLAND: 2

DOWNTOWN: 4

HELL'S KITCHEN: 4

LONG ISLAND: 3

LES: 3,5

MORNINGSIDE: 3

QUEENSBOROUGH: 3

UES: 3

UWS: 4

Let's assume that you were to bid for a 4* hotel, included MTE and Coney Island in your bidding, and won a hotel... do you see how that hotel would have to be in the MTE zone? (since of the two zones you bid, only MTE has 4* hotels... the highest in Coney Island is 2* and therefore wouldn't meet the minimum threshold (4*) that you designated for this bid)

Does that make sense? Any questions?

If understood, do you see how when bidding 4* there are SIX such zones that you can add to your bidding, but also know that you can't win a hotel there since the highest star rating offered is less than 4 stars. Can you confirm these SIX zones? (which we refer to as re-bid zones)

I got it!

But as I want a 3 star, for the re-bid zone I only have one option (Coney Island) to re-bid, once is the only region where the highest star rating is less than 3 stars ?

Am I right ?

So, getting back to first tips to help me you gave in the beggining, all the times you say to add a re-bid zone, that would be Coney Island ?

Tks

Correct... BUT before starting any bidding session always double check to make sure that nothing has changed and that any re-bid zones you've identified (Coney Island in your example) still only have star ratings lower than the star rating you're bidding (as new hotels can be added, and/or hotels upgraded/downgraded, at any time).
