kclove Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Hi,I'm new to this and trying to get a good deal for NYC for the 1 night Dec 22-23. I'm trying to stay under $130/night and minimum rating would be 3 stars. But I read some other posts and it seems this is a busier time of year than I expected and this may not be at all possible.Any help is very much appreciated.I would like to stay the following areas but I'm flexible and open to suggestions:-- Central Park South-- Chelsea Area-- Empire State Building Area-- Madison Square Garden-- Soho-- Times Square. Thanks,G
thereuare Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! This is actually a slow time of year in NYC as it's after the mid-December cut-off for high season/low season (and before the New Year's Even crowds arrive)You may even be able to get a 4* hotel at $130 or less... are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip? Also, if you want to bid for a higher rated hotel first, are other zones acceptable (such as MTE, MTW)? If bidding for a 3* hotel first, do note that in the CPS zone is the Hudson hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms... would this be an acceptable outcome? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there. kclove Posted December 16, 2012 Author Report Posted December 16, 2012 Yes, other zones like Mte and Mtw are acceptable too and I am ok with a small room if the location is good. For this trip, cheaper is better. If I can stay at 3.5 star hotel with a good price, it would be nice. Thanks, G
thereuare Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 ...minimum rating would be 3 stars. For this trip, cheaper is better. If I can stay at 3.5 star hotel with a good price, it would be nice. This is conflicting information... in theory (and usually) a 3* hotel will be cheaper then a 3.5* property, so what is it that you want try for first:1) the least expensive 3* or better hotel2) a 3.5* property (that may cost more than a 3* property)Exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, are acceptable at the star level you'd like to try for first? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kclove Posted December 16, 2012 Author Report Posted December 16, 2012 Thanks for the reply! I want to try for a 3.5 star first. Zones such as Cps, Chelsea, financial district, empire state area, Madison square garden, mte, mtw, Soho and TS, are all acceptable. Any place that I can easily take a subway would be good. Thanks,G
thereuare Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 At the 3.5* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. kclove Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 I tried the biddings strategy you laid out for 3.5 stars, but no luck yet. Should I raise money Or is it better to go with hotwire.com? I just checked HOTWIRE link for 12/22-23 and there are some $120 ish in Soho, financial district area. What do you think? Thanks for the tip,G
AaronJB Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 What are the star ratings, price (before taxes/fees) and complete set of amenities showing with the properties of interest in this zone on HOTWIRE?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Romelle Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Sometimes HOTWIRE can simply work better than PRICELINE. And vice versa. But do take into your calculations the fact that Hotwire can be a little more generous with stars than Priceline is. Maybe a 1/2 star, so the 3 1/2 star on Hotwire might be a 3 star on Priceline. It does vary. Sometimes no difference, and sometimes even a full star. If you provide the info for which AaronJB is asking, an "educated guess" as to just what the Hotwire hotel is might shed more light on your choice. However, Hotwire deals change continually. Don't wait too long to nab one if it appears to meet your needs.Romelle

thereuare Posted December 19, 2012 Report Posted December 19, 2012 Best guess for the 3* would be the Holiday Inn New York City - Wall Street (on Nassau St) and for the MTE property my guess would be the Roosevelt. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or how we can be of further help.
