marcuss Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 Looking for a hotel in Manhattan from Jan 12-13, preferably below 85$ a night. Is it plausible to get a good 3,5* or 4* hotel that fits the bill? If so, could any of you help me to get that deal?
thereuare Posted December 14, 2012 Report Posted December 14, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Sub-$100 in NYC isn't that common, but you do have a chance as you're coming during one of the slowest times of the year (which is typically when we do see such low rates). However, to get started, please clarify a few things...Your topic title mentions 3* and up BUT the body of your message indicates a 'good 3.5* or 4*'... is your minimum star rating actually 3*, 3.5*, or 4*? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel (ie- would you pay more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is the goal the least expensive 3* or better (or you can substitute 4* and 3.5* in the previous sentence if your minimum star rating is actually 3.5*)Lastly, while you might be able to get something near your budget, it likely won't be one of the 'better' hotels in the city (imo)... the 'nice' hotels typically cost more than $85/nite so if you are successful i think it will more likely than not be at one of the lower tier properties within the star rating (ie- sort of like two students who gets a B on their report card, yet one actually got a B+ and the other a B-). If you're looking for 'quality' i would sooner increase your budget ($100-$120) and try for a 4* hotel via PRICELINE OR try to pick something thru HOTWIRE that has good reviews and/or a high star rating... but not surprisingly a quick look at HOTWIRE doesn't show any 3* or higher rated properties at $85 or less.Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts on the above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. marcuss Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 Thanks! My minimum star rating is 3* and my goal, as you said, is the least expensive 3* hotel or better. As this would be my first time in NYC, I don't know much about the zones but I guess I'd spend my time in the area between Central Park South and Lower Manhattan so I think the most suitable areas would be as following:- Central Park South- Chelsea Area- Downtown - Financial District- Empire State Building Area- Hell's Kitchen- Lower East Side- Madison Square Garden- Midtown East and West- Queensborough Bridge- Soho- Times Square. However, I could raise my budget from 85$ to 100$ if there was a good likelihood to get a good 4* hotel with a good location.

marcuss Posted December 17, 2012 Author Report Posted December 17, 2012 I'll spend 3 nights total in NYC but I'll go outside NYC for a few days. I've booked the other two nights in NYC already. Thus the hotel doesn't necessarily have to be as centrally located as possible. So, how I should proceed to get that good 3* or above hotel as cheaply as possible (let's forget those 4* hotels with bigger budget)? Also, small rooms don't bother me if the hotel is otherwise convenient and the bathroom isn't shared. I'd prefer the hotel to be near the subway though.

If these other nites were purchased thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE please share your purchase with the board so that others can benefit from the information.I'd prefer the hotel to be near the subway though. Is a 15 minute walk to the subway near by enought? To some this is acceptable and to some this is not.Is $85 still your maximum bid for this trip as this could be a tough feat. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these previous links before replying.
