Hi,

I'm new to this and just trying to get a good deal for NYC for the 3 nights listed in the title ( Dec 11 - Dec 14 ). I'm trying to stay under $120/night mark but I read some other posts and it seems this is a busier time of year than I expected and this may not be at all possible. Would you recommend I try and spllit the bidding for different nights or try for one hotel? Any help is very much appreciated.

I would like to be somewhat central and think the following areas satisfy this but I'm flexible and open to suggestions:

-- Central Park South

-- Chelsea Area

-- Empire State Building Area

-- Hell's Kitchen

-- Madison Square Garden

-- Times Square.

Thanks,

B.

I guess 3 stars would be the minimum rating I'm looking for. If there's any possibility to get a 3.5-4 star for under $120, that's obviously a bonus. I have not made any bids yet.

Thanks for the help.

You can certainly try for any star rating you'd like, and while things can change over the next 4-5 days, at current rates i don't think that $120 is realistic for a 3* or better hotel in any of the zones you've mentioned above.

When bidding 3* you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* CPS, Chelsea, ESB...

You could try the above at the 4* level, if that is rejected close browser, use this board link to re-access PRICELINE, then repeat at the 3.5* level. If that too is rejected you can once again use a PRICELINE link on the board to re-access and re-try at the 3* level.

Any questions feel free to ask.

I tried the biddings strategy you laid out for 3, 3.5, and 4 stars and as you predicted, nothing stuck.

Are there generally better deals in the lower east side, soho and financial district? I'm not overly familiar with NYC, but I'm sure it's a pretty quick subway ride to more central locations from these areas?

Do you think it's in my interest to try this again closer to my travel dates?

Thanks.

Anything is possible, but i just don't think you're $120 budget is realistic for these dates... have you checked hotel direct rates? With just 4 days to go before your check-in date what is your back-up plan?

Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable 3* or better hotel for this trip?

At current rates i think you're likely looking at $180-$200 for a centrally located 3* or better hotel (although i would of course start lower and work your way higher).

HOTWIRE does have a 3* hotel in the ESB zone for $185/nite, but my guess is that this is the Bedford Hotel, which if correct, is only 2* rated by PRICELINE.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
