I'm looking for a 3.5*, preferably 4* hotel in New York City from Saturday, December 8th - Monday, December 10th. I'm pretty open to all the areas in Manhattan but hoping to get something downtown/Wall Street. Do you think it might be a good idea to hold off on bidding until later this week? My max bid right now is $200 per night.

Thanks for your help.

Nobody can say if rates will come down OR move higher between now and the end of the week, it depends upon how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expectations... it's possible that rates come down in the next week, it's also possible that hotels get busier then they are currently with last minute shoppers/reservations and rates that would be accepted now are rejected later in the week. (see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ for more info in this subject)

While i know it's not ideal on a 2 nite stay, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID a possibility... rates are significantly cheaper for Sunday nite vs. this Saturday nite.

I'm not opposed to splitting the bid but I'd rather not. I think I might wait till Thursday and start bidding, in hopes that prices go down. If my bid is not successful, I might just bid for Sunday night and stay with family/friends on Saturday. Do you think a $200 max bid per night realistic for NYC this weekend?

Thanks!

At the moment, $200 for Saturday nite is a bit of a stretch (but worth trying)... for Sunday it's much more than enough. Although hotels are better at averaging the rates then they used to be, it still adds a level of difficulty to getting a winning bid.

I am about to start bidding on a hotel. I'm thinking of starting to bid on a 4* in midtown east, midtown west, soho-tribeca, and downtown financial district. I'm going to start pretty low and work my way up to my maximum bid. If that doesn't work I'll bid on a 3.5* in those same locations start low again and work my way up. If that still doesn't work, I'll then go down to a 3*. Do you think that strategy should work? It looks like the prices of some of the hotels have gone down. Hotwire has a midtown central hotel at $211 a night so I might be able to pull something decent. Thoughts? Thanks for your help.

Yes, that is a viable strategy (assuming you'd rather stay at a lower rated hotel vs. SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID).

Did you want us to suggest a bidding strategy to follow? If so, please confirm/clarify if you also wanted to include TS, CPS and/or MSG in your 4* bidding? (previously you were looking for any Manhattan hotel but now just four zones... are these other areas not acceptable OR do you just not think you're budget will be enough in these zone OR are there hotels in each zone you're hoping to avoid)
