Hotwire Hotel: 4* San Francisco (Union Square East) Westin Market Street

Hello everyone,

I'm getting away with the wife (no kids) from Feb 8-11. I would like to stay in union square east and am looking for 4* or higher. I'm open to Priceline or Hotwire but the bottom line, like always, is a good deal :) is it too early to start searching/ bidding? Any insight would be much appreciated. I apologize in advance for my ignorance as I'm new to this. My budget 150-200 per night.

If your plans are set, bidding a bit under 3 months in advance is certainly not too far in advance. Your budget for these dates gives you a lot of options. The least expensive option would be PRICELINE, although you have to be willing to accept any hotel within the star rating you choose in the zone you select. With HOTWIRE, you can make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing based on the information given (although that is generally moderately more expensive than PRICELINE), and regular rate, there are some deals, like Expedia offering the 4.5* Fairmont for $174 (30% off.)

There is no way to know if prices will drop closer to your stay; if there is something going on (convention, event) they may not (and can go the other way.) This is discussed further in the PRICELINE FAQ.

In terms of options, which sounds most appealing? PRICELINE (cheapest, but the one that requires most flexibility), HOTWIRE (more expensive, but the ability to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing) or regular rate (there are some regular price options on sale on Expedia within your desired budget.)

One bit of insight is the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins up above under the Tools menu. For your dates right now there aren't any reported bids for PRICELINE, but are for HOTWIRE. And if you click on the reported bid, it will take you to the original post. You might want to check in to the Calendar periodically for new reports.

If you want to research conventional booking, there are lots of links to hotel and general booking sites on the Support Page above.

If you haven't found it already, the very last area on this site is Hotel Reviews. There are of course more reviews on www.tripadvisor.com, but the reviews here have a slightly different slant.

And finally, the search functions in the upper right hand corner are very powerful and useful. Both the "I Want To.." one and the free form one below it. You could search on "huntington hotel" or "hotel abri" or "nob hill" or .....

I'm not currently seeing this property (nor any 4* hotel in the USE zone) offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children?

HOTWIRE offers change all the time. It may have been that, rather than your search criteria.

If you see something that would work for you, don't hesitate too long.

But if something gets away from you, keep checking back. Sometimes offers sort of cycle.
