thereuare Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Im looking for 5 star possibly 4 star on 26th -27th of November in or around the Airport (I arrive midnight so not looking to spend much) maybe just 80 Us or so.If you search HOTWIRE for this date does anything near the airport zone(s) appear within your desired star rating and budget? You can also try our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com to see if anything within appears within your budget and location.Im further more looking for a specific hotel either Durj Al Arab (the sail) which I do not think ill get or Atlantis hotel, the palm on the 28th of November to the 1st of December. If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 That $150 5* is appearing now (9:30 AM Central - 11/10) with the default occupancy. Just the Restaurant and Business Center amenities. There haven't been any Hotwire 5*s reported yet so ID'ing it will be more iffy.Romelle
Foodieboy Posted November 21, 2012 Author Report Posted November 21, 2012 Using your link to HOTWIRE I got the following offer:5 star 28th/11 - 1st/12-12Dubai South - Jumeirah area hotel price 163$ US5-star Hotel in Dubai South - JumeirahThis Hotel features the following amenities:Free Parking <amenity names only please... not descriptions>Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply.Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal.Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary.Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply.Laundry Facilities (self-service) <amenity names only please... not descriptions>High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. What do you think this is?
thereuare Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I don't have any insight as to which property this one is, but i would be very cautious with this offer... it has a very low 35% recommendation from previous HOTWIRE guests and somewhat low scores on the feedback categories that HOTWIRE asks above, as well as a 3.0/5.0 TA rating; this will probably not provide the 5* experience you are looking for.Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay.Alternately, there is a 5* Condo in the zone that you may be interested in... 4.5/5.0 TA rating and is a 'risk free' booking meaning that you can cancel within 24 hours if you don't like the hotel (see full terms, but note that you can only do this once for any given trip). This is priced at $181/nite, but i would sooner look at this property at a few more dollars then the one above, especially on an extended stay such as this one since the Kitchen and larger space of a 1BR Suite would come in handy. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Foodieboy Posted November 21, 2012 Author Report Posted November 21, 2012 HiOn name your own price / price line. Say you know you ask for a 5 star propperty in a given area and you a rather certain that you will get a hotel at eg. 190 US, now say you are looking for something really nice and are willing to pay more, so you offer 250US, do you know that you will get something better at that price or do you risk just paying 250$ for a 190$ deal so to speak.... does this make sense?Regards Foodieboy.
AaronJB Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 If you bid higher in an attempt to avoid a particular property, you could end up overbidding/overpaying for the property you were trying to avoid. Bids can be accepted higher than the hotel's retail price. Bidding is really about being flexible in terms of which hotel you may get.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Foodieboy Posted November 22, 2012 Author Report Posted November 22, 2012 That part I get, but does bidding higher open up for greater oppertunities, so that you still get a great deal, but at a place that would newer accept a lower offer???
thereuare Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 An example:Hotel 1: $100 priceHotel 2: $300 priceYou bid $275 and receive Hotel #1 as your bid price was not enough to receive Hotel #2.If you bid $300 you win Hotel #2 and that hotel was not an option at bids less than $300, so 'yes', your higher bid exposed you to a hotel that was not available at lower prices. HOWEVER, if there was no such Hotel #2 (or if Hotel #2 was priced higher than $300)... then you'd simply have won Hotel #1 for $300, which would have been available for much less.See this thread for more information: Don't Bid Higher for a Specific HotelPlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
